Any tips on on what a good tech writer resume should look like? Any buzz / key words that you can't do without? Where can you see examples of good tech writer resumes?

Hi Bruce,

I am currently recruiting for a bi-lingual tech writer in Seattle. The ideal candidate should have Japanese OR Spanish and English bilingual skills and be able to localize and write technical documents in English. Occasional translation from Japanese or Spanish may be involved.

If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity or know someone that might be interested, I would appreciate a response sent to jsheth@transperfect.com

Thank you
Jasmine

Spelling and formatting errors will get you overlooked, so read and re-read your resume!

The rules for a tech writing resume are the same as any other resume. Assuming that you do not have errors (typos, poor English, etc.), concentrate on your achievements. If you are new in the field but took significant writing-related courses in college, high school or through seminars, include those as part of your experience.

Most of your keywords should include all of the tools you can use (not necessarily the ones in which you are proficient, but the ones you have at least "touched"), such as Framemaker, Word, Excel, PhotoShop, Visio, etc. Also include the types of documentation that you have prepared, such as manufacturing procedures, corporate brochures, instruction manuals, etc.

And by all means, tailor it to the position! And one last thing, whether you are doing everything online or by mail, include a cover letter!!!
