Hi all -
I'm considering becoming a technical writer and was wondering what (in the words of real people) a technical writer does?
I've looked at the generic job descriptions online but would greatly appreciate any description of the job duties directly from someone who knows. Thanks so much!

Hi!
You write technical documents: Directions on how to put something together, or accomplish a task, Training Manuals, Technical Operating Manuals, Checklists, Technical Procedures, Software Documentation, etc., etc. Often you need experience in a certain industry, as all of the Tech Writing for a specific company will require knowledge in their processes.
You will normally work with other people who are doing the tasks or procedures that you will be documenting.
It helps to be able to think in a very logical/chronological fashion when doing Tech Writing...think "Windows 7 for Dummies" as you often need to explain to someone, in written form, how to do something that they have never done before.
Good luck!
