I started as a satellite technician in the US Air Force. I've always been interested in "how does that work". I got a job as a router installer in 1995 with a small Mom & Pop company and was self-taught and a lot of on-the-job training. I learned IP, SONET, DWDM, T1 framing, and the like. I went from the Mom/Pop company to Sprint in KC, then taught telecom for an Oregon based company, then worked as a SE for Nortel and now am a senior level SONET engineer in Idaho for an awesome company! I did finish my bachellors in CIS along the way though and that helped a bit.
