How did you get your start doing test engineer work, and what career moves did you make to get to your current position?

Do you need a particular educational background?

Start cheap. Don't worry. You can quickly move up the salary ladder.

But be willing to take $40K to start.

Soon you will be doing fine.

I have a friend who is a tech recruiter who needs test engineers that companies are willing to pay top dollar for but he can't find any. Or at least the ones who are looking are not who these companies want. Any advice? How do you get test engineers who are currently working interested in a sweet, highly paid job change? Posting on Dice isn't enough...these people aren't even looking...probably swamped with work.

I am an eLearning specialist...a contractor...I am always looking because I want to see what the latest tool the companies are looking for so I can download the trial and learn it for my next contract.
