michael, two things.if there is some companies in your area that is looking for a combination welder,tig/mig go apply and be honest about your little experience in tig welding, and if they are nice enough to give you break and hire you,let say as an apprentice or trainee for a little less money than what you think you should earn,i would say go for it.as for going to school,it's time and money.if you have a good one in your area then go if have time and money.but with school it's not guaranteed that you will learn all about welding that can make you earn what you wanted to.thats why i explain to you the scenario of working as an apprentice/trainee...tig-mig-arc-gas it's all different technique. |

michael, sorry i ran of space, your certification from school is just let peopole know that you know/graduated from school of welding.as far as my experience in getting certified, some customer's wanted welder that will work on their parts to be certified as per spec/code on the type of work's that they do.welder's certification is not all the same.there's a lot of different specs and code |

To become a great welder seek both technical training and experience... Education concerning welding techniques and codes is vital. There are many different processes and base materials. I've made it a point not only study different codes, but grades of metals & metal alloys. Technical information makes all the difference in some processes. There is, of course, an artful side to Tig Welding. It requires a certian finese. I sometimes use the art of natural motion and appropriate breathing techniques when welding. To that end, I say practice. When you've welded a mile of material you'll understand what I mean. After that, remember that at it's base level a certification is just a test. Learning is a journey, not a destination. |
