Are jobs in this industry on the rise? Are there any sub-sectors that are growing?

Where are the jobs? Which places have the most transportation planner opportunities?

I would be interested in answers to this question. My sense is that even though there is a great need for transportation planners, opportunities are somewhat limited; mainly due to a lack of government funding. But I would be interested in other people's opinions.

If Congress gets its act together and creates a robust 6-year Federal transportation bill, you'll see a re-surgence in transportation planning and engineering jobs. If it is a 2-year bill as Boxer and the senate want, which is suicide, then I suspect the market will continue to stagnate for several more years....
