Do to the declining economy, I feel that for a small company (25 drivers or less), a transportation supervisor is not needed. You can use a driver (with a cell phone) to run short runs and still handle the supervision of his/her co-workers. You must have someone who can not only drive, but look over Log sheets, safety records proper routing and the overall activities of your employees. The applicant for this job must be energetic and have a love for his/her job and the people they work for.
For companies with more than 25 drivers a transportation manager is not only need but is a MUST HAVE.

im working in transportation company in hassi messaoud as QHSE MANAGER we use drive right and vdo smens to fleet managment and eatsh da we do safety meeting for all drivers and speak about journy managment check mist using extinguisher

Yes, I think there is a decline. The trucking industry is extremely slow this time of year. Do not expect an increase in shipments (in TX anyway) until at least May or June. As far as a fleet or terminal manager, just depends. Most companies or going the load planner/customer service route. This is not exactly a good thing, because LP/CS does not know that driver or their needs.
