I just graduated from Keiser University. They have an excellent sonography program. They offer general and vascular. It is a 16 month core program. They are fully accreditted, and you will be eligible to sit for your boards immediately after graduation. Hope this helps you!!

How long were you on the waiting list at Keiser before you were able to start the general sonography program? It is my understanding that the day you start your prerequisites, you are on the waiting list to enter the program. With that said, how long were you on the waiting list, prerequisites and all?

The waiting list for DMS is till 2012 and for DVS is till mid 2010. Of cause you waiting time start s from the moment you enroll. The more you wait to enrell the longer you will be on a waiting list. It is not a clear date when you will start you core, dates are approximate.

The counselor at Keiser says that the date of 2012 is way exaggerated but they have to say it anyway. She said she has never seen anyone be on the waiting list for more than a year for DMS, which would mean if I go on it at the end of this month, I should be in the program by next spring, 2010. I just want some proof of this or want to know from someone that was on the waiting list and then entered the program if their 2012 date is a big overshoot or if what the counselor is telling me about only waiting a year is a lie. I obviously don't want to wait around until 2012, but otherwise I like Keiser and would want to attend their DMS program. Thanks.

Shelby,
Just make sure that you are sure about it because Keiser is extremely expensive. They are a for profit school but a good one. I am a student here at Keiser in Orlando and I will be in the Occupational therapist assistant program. From the time I start my pre-reqs till the time I start my core classes, it will be about a year and a half.

a girl who is sorry for going to ATI in Hollywood, Florida

Do not go to ATI Health Education center in miami, Fl. They are the worst. Most of their graduates have to go back to doing what they were doing prior to attending that school. Most of their instructors are not even ARDMS. How can you teach someone to pass an exam that you never sit for or if you did you never passed. The only thing that school cares about is collecting the money. For all their graduates, good luck, to present students, I'm praying for you, because you have a big surprise when you graduate, and to future students, don't go there, go to another school or you will be sorry. Think about this, the GI Bill do not recognise them as an accredited school.

Hey, I also have my AA in business and want to get into Sonography. I was going to go to PBIT on 45th street, but I learned that if you went to a non-accredited school then you had to work for a year before you could sit for your certification. I don't know of any other schools around here except for IAMP and PBCC Gardens. PBCC would be fine but you have to have a 2 year allied health degree before you can do sonography.

I need help too! I really want to finish school but I don't know where to go! It's so expensive at IAMP!
Any other ideas?

Not to mention, my sister is now going there! trust me, PBIOT care's about you more than PBCC or Keiser! I’m also not going to sit on a waiting list for a year to start school, after that an additional 4 years to finish the program, Don’t think so! Every year that goes by, that is approximately about $55k Dollars a yr out of my pocket that i would never see, LOL no way!

exactly my point... they told me i had a one yr waiting period i was like what???!!!!! the only way u wont be on a waiting list is if you start with them right away (as in do ALL your classes with them)
p.s i had an actual meeting with one of the girls that worked there and she clearyfied this to me
if i would have know i would have started with them right away and have done my pre-req's at keiser.

Miami Dade College has a sonography program accredited by CAAHEP (which is the accred. that you really want) and ARDMS. They only accept 20 students a year however, so you pretty much need a 4.0 on you prereqs to get in. I wouldn't waste time going to a private institution- for the money you can get a four year degree from a university.

There is a sonography program available in Palm Beach as well as Ft.Myers, Fl, i beileve. I was a student at the Palm Beach campus. This entire program is a scam, the school is not accredited, has no intention of becoming accredited, and will suck up your money as quickly as possible before you realize this.

PBIT cant get clinical sites and wont care to help you after you graduate.
Cant get accredited at all. They only care about getting your money and jobs is only available for accredited and registered people. You are better off going to an accredited college.

I am thinking of attending keiser in ft lauderdale for ultrasound. I was wondering if the program was any good. I understand its super expensive and thats ok with me as long as I get a good education and feel confident about the knowledge received after completion. Did anyone graduate from the ultrasound program recently? Was it easy to find a job and about how much can you make to start. Please help I need some feed back so I can decide what to do. Thanks :))

They only care about getting your money, not one of the admins/deans/presidents will every heed to what students say. They have you take surveys at the end of each class on the class and professor, yet they do NOTHING with them. It was a waste of my time and money...and extra money that I should have never spent, but did do to their errors! Be very careful with this school. I will never tell anyone to go there!

Thats too bad. I have been looking for something on ultrasound reviews for ft lauderdale and cant find anything good or bad. I have found some on rn, medical program and the criminal justice. They have been ok so far. They do speak about the fact that they pretty much are robbing you for the education but my alternative is broward college and they are asking for about 4 years plus. I dont have that much time. I am a single mom and my time is now. I was hoping to hear about experiences on the course like specifics on the actual education and if they helped with jobs.

Hi Nicole!

Really the career in ultrasound is great. There are lots of opportunities in this field which is again expected to grow in due course of time. But have you ever thought of going for online courses. There are many universities providing online sonography technician courses. These universities provide all the study materials, online lectures and timely support. The best part is they have the provision for scholarship and financial aids that would lower the cost of your studies to minimum. The following site is having all the details about these scholarship programs. www.sonographytechnician.org/financial-aid-and-scholarships-for-sonography-technicians/. After doing a course you could easily get a job in any hospital, offices of physicians, medical and diagnostic laboratories etc. This is also a rewarding job and you can earn a healthy amount being a sonography technician. If you have any confusion about this please go through the given article. www.sonographytechnician.org/salary-information-for-sonography-technicians/. Hope now you have got a fair good idea about the sonography technician career. Best of luck!

Believe me it is not economy proof. I graduated from Keiser University in Melbourne in 2008 and can't get a job. I worked my butt off to maintain a 4.0GPA and passed the ARRT registry and the ARDMS registry and it didn't do me any good. I've applied all over the country and when I hear anything back at all it's "we want someone with more experience". But usually I just don't hear anything at all. I would say the economy has hit the imaging field in general pretty hard.

Yes, all the prerequisite courses must be taken I waited 6 mo to get in is was $1675 a month out of poquet, it is a great career but there is no jobs for people with out experience or not registered, now they want you to be RDMS and RVT at the hospitals minimum of 2 years experience....Keiser was a good school expensive, intense. They graduate 24 students every 4 months that is why this field went bazooka! LOl! here I am ...2 years later RDMS in Abdomen, breast, Obgyn and still can't find a job...Search for another career.

I am interested in DMS, but my friend graduated from PBIT ablout a year ago and could not find a job here in S FL. She ended up moving back to Boston. She found a job there part-time making $29/hr (so she says). I'm very interested in DMS though I'm thinking it through. I'm hoping that by the time I'm done, if I study DMS, in about 2 years there will be employment. I went to Keiser, they charge $7,100.00 per semester. And I hear the classes are very intense. Good luck to all.

I currently live in Texas but want to leap over to Florida to go to school to be an ultrasound tech. I just recently graduated high school and have no idea what the next step is or what it should be. My counselor said I should try for a community college, but from the looks of it, it seems almost impossible. If anyone has any tips, they would be much appreciated!

Your best bet is to stay in Texas and look for another profession. I graduated in 2010, have 2 certifications and will probably never find a job in this field. The market is completely saturated.
