I have a Bachelor's degree and am certified with ARDMS (SPI, Abdomen and will be sitting for my OB next week) I have around 6 months of field experience from volunteering in an OB environment, but I need a paid job. I have gotten only a few replies to my resume, most of which say I need experience. Even jobs where no registry is needed, I need experience. This doesn't make sense. I can't get the experience I need if no one will hire me, and I've got all the prerequisites anyone would need, and the drive to get any registry they may need. I am an earnest, hard working person, but despite having multiple letters of recommendation, and an aggressive job search (I apply anywhere I can find a place to put in, nationwide, even into Canada.) I can not get a job. No one has said I have a poorly lettered resume, or poor interview skills, so I do not know what the issue might be.

I am in a completely different field, and I am having the same problem. I had a very intense, long-term internship, have many reference letters, and a resume and cover letter that have been checked and are fine. I did just get a temp job, but it will be over in less than 6 months. The problem is not you, it is the economy. Employers know that they can pick and choose, and they are choosing experience. My experience of 2 years and Master's degree got me 3 interviews, and I lost out to people with more experience. The employers in my area do not want recent grads (unless you are related to someone), they want YEARS of experience. Lots of employers do not even consider internships, practicums, field work, etc. as experience. The only advice I can give you is to double check your resume, which is probably not the problem, but get several people to look at it. My mom's friend recently posted an ad for a job and got 1000 resumes. She did not even consider anyone with less than a certain amount of related experience. She did not have to-she had hundreds of people to choose from. Also, I have spoken to several people who hire, and they are not even considering resumes that are badly formatted, have typos, etc. Also, there are just not that many jobs. I am sorry I did not have better advice for you. |

Lets not forget that 99% of employers today DO NOT want to train new employees.... they expect you to hit the ground running and get your footing the first day on the job. Unfortunately this sucks for many new grads in many different career fields. The days of training new employees until they get up to speed are over as it costs money to train... money not in the budget |

I'm in the same boat as you are. Two years have gone since I got my boards cleared and still no luck. Most of the interviews I took told me the same thing, "get experience". This is crazy.

My place is going to hire soon because one of our employees retired. I will say that you do need to be registered, preferably RVT. We do general and vascular work here. Its a very small town about 2hours away from major cities. We rotate call every week, so with a third person you would be doing call every third week for the whole week and weekend. Its Brownwood Medical Regional, in Brownwood TX. If interested you can see if the posting is there. We do need someone that at least knows abd/ob/gyn. |

Anita, Is there someway you can contact me directly? We both know it helps to know who you are talking to for the interview, and I want to make certain I have everything going in a helpful direction. I am definitely certified, and I want my RVT, but I need the experience to get it. Haha, there it is again! Just send me a note at SonographerRDMS (at) gmail.com and maybe you can help me get my foot in the door. |

Im in the same boat graduated Dec 09 from accredited school and absolutely nothing. Im RDMS OB and no one cares. They expect you to have all of them plus RRT which is a step backwards if you went straight into ultrasound program. I m studying for the RVT exam taking it in April or May depending if I feel ready. I hope something comes my way soon. I have applied to so many jobs all over texas I cant even remember how many. good luck |

We do want a experienced tech in the sense that they know how to scan. Not technically by experienced by years. So give it a shot. I would def put down that you are planning to take your RVT registry in April 2012 or May 2012. Because we are really looking for someone that is registered as a RVT as well as Abd or OB/gyn or both. April/May isn't that far so they might consider. Good Luck chs.taleo.net/careersection/10001/jobdetail.ftl?lang=en&job=730538&src=JB-12080 |
