What is the best training for becoming a vp? What types of ongoing training or certifications are necessary to be an effective vp?

What do non-traditional career paths look like?

The best I can tell you is have an MBA. Business school is not a must but will be an incredible foundation for any executive level position. Today it's easier to go to school than before. Check out UMUC.edu (University of Maryland), Indiana University, Webster University, etc.

If you have an MBA, then a lot of times it's knowing the right people and busting your butt to prove yourself. But it all pays off.
