What do you enjoy most about being a valet parking attendant? What do you dislike the most? Is it challenging? Are there many opportunities to learn and advance? What keeps you at your job? |

What I enjoy most is making my own hours and driving super nice cars. What I dislike most is having to babysit some of the guys I work with cause they're idiots. To me being a valet is a cake walk, theres nothing to it. Know how to talk to people and be an efficient worker. Simple! |

definately the sweetest minimum wage job you will ever have! sometimes it gets a little hectic and there are some stiffs out there, but it all pays off when that jaguar xj12 rolls in... |

Be prepared to work with idiots who show up late, leave early, etc. Middle class people tip well at weddings, etc. wealthy people are often the worst tippers or do not tip at all, high end places, country clubs. If you can't drive stick, forget it, you're worthless |

I have fun meeting all the people. I hate when I don't make any money. I hate working just off tips on slow nights. I like getting $20 tips and driving nice cars. And when women who are wearing skirts get out of SUV's and forget to keep there legs closed. :-) |

Looking to run my own location, and it seems like there are a lot more variables to valet parking then I previously expected. Yes idiots on the job can be problematic and I've seen quite a few with more than a few companies within the city of Toronto at locations I've scouted. Job pay does seem to be a big factor in recruiting quality guys, but on the other hand I've found that valet attendants that provide exception service along with added services (ie. a run for cigarettes, or tums or even just a pleasant conversation and a few laughs) tend to make out alright. The best operation I've noticed so far is Bymark on Thursday nights. Those guys are hilarious, can drive anything and know every customer walking in through those doors from newbies to regulars. Just fantastic. Anybody else seen anything different I should check out?!? |

I own an operate a mid-size Valet Company and in my experience, it comes down to being committed enough to finding the right people, clearly defining your expectations, and making sure they know they are appreciated. We take care of all our guys and pay them well. As a result we've parked over 150,000 vehicles and only had 2 minor accidents totaling $800 in damages and have 100% contract renewal rate with all of our clients. We've built a strong enough foundation to where my core guys will weed out the new hires who aren't cutting it. If they have negative feedback about the new hires, we let the slackers go before they cause problems and reflect poorly on our company. Increasing your labor cost may lower your short term profit but its is how you build a successful company in this industry. Good luck! |
