I would recommend reading up on your basic dog/care vaccine protocols, hearworm prevention/treatmet, flea prevention, and dog/cat nutrition just to name a few. Customer service is definitely a priority if you want to become a veterinary receptionist. If you have no vet experience you might try volunteering at your local animal shelter. You could learn a lot about dogs & cats, and it could definitely get your foot in the door at an animal hospital. You may have to start out working in the kennel of an animal hospital at first, until you build up your knowledge on animal care.
