I recently moved to NYC with little to no serving experience. However, I have been actively searching for a serving job and recently got two offers. One from corporate, chain restaurant in Times Square as a hostess and another from a Pub in a Manhattan neighborhood as a server (with a tip pool). I know that I could move up very easily to server at the job in Times Square and make a hefty amount of money, but I'm wondering if I would make just as much money right away at the more 'off the beaten path' pub?

I am a hostess in the West Village and have a ton of NYC experience. I have learned that 1) Servers make more than you no matter what (they get tips) 2) A restaurant that you can move up in is always the better option, and 3) If you are going to be making less than $12 and hour as a host it is not really worth it.
