Hello Arnold, Im not sure to what extent of detail you are looking for but I will give you some general info and you can reply later for the details you are specifically looking for.
Of course all commodities are different, such as perishable food vs. dry goods are temperature sensitive, where as industrial supplies need no controlled environment.
We will start with one of the most important things for overall success that is inventory control. We need to remember the basics that are if the count is correct as it is received and correct as it is shipped, the warehouse inv. count will always be perfect. It is always good to cycle count your product all the time to insure precise inv. numbers.
There are many different types of warehouse management systems on the market, Triceps, GS400 just to name a few; these can be set up pretty easy by an IT specialist and come ready to use with URL or RF scanning components.
Working with the manufacturers and your buyers you will be able to set up a bar code for each of the items that will make receiving much easier. For shipping you will be able to customize each item by the way you will ship it, whether it is a single unit or broken down by the eaches.
Most companies generate a hard copy of the purchase order or print out a shipping order for the employee to gather or pull the order for shipping, it is then taken to a central location where someone else checks the order for accuracy as they scan it to be loaded on a truck or packed in boxes for overnight or courier deliveries.

Could you be more specific in detail regarding warehousing at a Campbell Soup Warehouse.
