I will be graduating in less then a month with my Bachelor's in Accounting. I have been looking for accounting employment for quite a while. There are hardly any entry level staff accountant positions out there, and when there is, hundreds apply.
Would it be a horrible idea to get into a large company with advancement opportunities as an accounting clerk? I could then work hard, prove myself, move onto bigger tasks and look to be promoted as a staff accountant, assistant controller, and so on...
Is this a realistic plan? Starting low to get through the doors and then working my way up? If so, is it a bad thing to ask prospective employers about advancement opportunities before accepting an accounting clerk job?
Thank you in advance,
