oct in Boston, Massachusetts said: So the IT guy asked me to write a message for a colleague who has retired and left the company to be used in the "Out of Office" reply message. Any suggestions for appropriate wording? Thanks!

I would write something like this:

On [insert date], [name of colleague] retired after [insert years of service] years of service. We wish [her/him] all the best.
If you need assistance, [insert name] would be happy to help you, as we want to continue offering you the very best service. You can reach [name] at [email address and phone number].
