I had an interviewed (part time teller) on Tuesday, and i really wants the job. The reciter and the manager said we will decision and we will give you a call to let you know yes or no at the end of the interview..She knows i wanted the job because i changes my school schedule to fit in with the bank schedule. So how long will i know the outcome?..Oh yeah, that day, the bank was short handed on teller, and there were a lots of things going and there were not enough of people to take care of. but my interview lasted about an hour, and i had a little chat abt my schedule with the manager (because he was in a hurry) and he asked me to write down my schedule. Which i did. I am so nervous.

Hello to all, I have completed the online application and test for Wachovia. I have had a recruiter call me and give me a phone interview. He said I passed and I will be one of three to do a face to face interview with two managers. Can anyone give me info on the face to face interviews? I have never worked in a bank, I have years and years of customer service and cash handling. Will there be more interviews to follow the face to face? Thanks

The first one I would relate it to school or something and say you were taking an online test where time was limited but you used your organization skills to put your notes together in a way to quicker find the answers and your use of organization scored you an a on the test compared to the class average of a c.

JL in New York, New York said: Requirements are a Bachelors at a minimum. The hiring is process is pretty long, got the job offer almost 2 months after the interview/writing test.

My responsibilities are to survey/observe/analyze/interview various NYC agencies and personnel to ensure that their operations are running as efficiently and effectively as possible. To make sure their internal controls that are in place are sufficient to carry out each agencys' goals. I will offer recommendations to the agencies if there are areas for improvement. All findings and recommendations are to be put into a report for the Comptroller, who is the person in charge of oversight of the City's purse in programs.

I also work in teams of 2-3, get to go out of the office periodically and take advantage of my Bachelor's education by having to do analytical work (rather than thoughtless and repetitive drone work)- all of which is A+ in my books. So this position is very similar to being a consultant, except the fact that the agencies didn't hire use to audit their operations. It is just the NYC law that requires these agencies to be audited every 3 years. Hope that helps.

Hi JL,

great! I think your job is pretty interesting, it's not boring. That's a type of job which I am looking for..how was the interview? what kind of written test? would you describe a little more details?

Thanks

Just reading about this Bank Teller position, it seems like for such an important position in the financial institution, and all the important requirements it posses, it pays VERY little. Just $10-$11 hourly.

I've got a phone interview tomorrow for bank of america, I just want the experience of interviewing, because the pay to me is not appealing at all for the AMOUNT of work this position requires. I can do clerical work of god's sake for that much hourly pay.

Hey divi, the phone interview went well, it was about 40 mins long. Think that's pretty long for a phone interview, but I guess she was very interested. She asked me to go over my resume in details and what my job duties were in previous positions. Since I've had a lot experience in customer service she asked a lot of question regarding that. Like What customer service means to me. When did I effectively used it. Another one was where I had to give an example of, How have gone above my duties for customer service. And since I've had years of experience in hospitality business she knows I have a lot cash handling experience as well. So she talked about that, and how I handle with cash.

Hopefully I get a call back for face to face interview, she seemed interested and are trying to fill the position quickly.

Hi divi, I was selected for the face to face interview. I was not scared of the phone interview, but I am VERY scared for the next one. What do you suggested I should know? What kinds of questions were you asked? The recruiter on the phone was very helpful, she gave me some advice as to what I should go in with, like again they'll ask customer service questions and why I want to be a teller. She also said I'll be overqualified, because I hold a BA in Finance degree. But told me to explain why I should still be hired for this position.

Thanks divi.

I hate being asked customer service behavioral questions on the spot, just because I have some trouble thinking of the perfect examples of customer service. I don't want to say anything that doesn't make any sense. I stumble a lot at interviews, I guess the nervousness really gets to me.

I had an interview today. I honestly cannot tell if it went well or not. It was the face to face interview and the last one. It lasted only about 25 minutes and had lots of customer service behavior questions, which I don't like.
I am not happy with the time off policy, because I do get to travel once in a while with my husband for his business trips and I guess you get time off depending on how long you work with them. I guess you can get your time off if nobody requested it yet. Does anyone know anything about it ?

hey, DP
Yeee whooo!! got the job!! they are pretty quick, within less than 24hrs, got the phone call from the recruiter, asking whether i accept the offer? YES!! my tip is to be yourself, explain most of the things with an example, like, once it happened in my previous job that.................etc, take a situation even from ur college days, which must be supporting ur answer and relevant to thier question, there is no reason to feel nervous, got to keep in mind that, even they are also getting prepared to screen u, just the way u r preparing to answer them, even they will be nervous, just be confident, smile, feel free!!show them that how much u want this job! prepare a little, that will deffinitely, gets u into the interview mood!! so goahead, give us a good news!!, wish u luck!

hey DP,
u said u have trouble remembering the situation from the previous job, what i can say is, just write down in a notepad an example from the last for each topic/situaion, like for being quick, multitask, perfection, how did u handle a difficult situation, etc at home, revise it atleast once! this should help u!!

How many interviewed you?
What behavioral questions did they ask you?
And were you also asked "sell me this product" question?

Thanks

I applied to Chase bank about a week ago and received a call for a phone interview about three days after. The guy gave me a very hard time but ended up setting me up for a face to face interview the day after at a branch located near me. Some of the questions he asked were; When was a time where you provided exceptional customer service? What was your cash limit? and questions about my availability.
The face to face interview was great! I was afraid because I saw people around my age walking out of the room and after they had gone I heard from the interviewers that they would not be hired. I was interviewed by a woman at first and than a second woman also. Some questions were, Why do you want to be a teller? How well do you multi-task? give an example. Name a time when you were incredibly frustrated but were able to do everything ok.
I was asked only about 4 to 5 questions and than was interviewed by the next lady who provided me with some more information and than offered me the job.
I am very happy with how professional and how quick this process was. I found out the same day that I got hired and I will be starting off with $12.00 an hr.

Ok, so I thought that I would post this, because I just got done with a phone interview with my recruiting specialist. I looked at all of these questions to prepare myself before the interview, so I wanted to add everything that we covered during the conversation. The email I received stated that it would last 40 minutes, but it was less than 10 minutes long...yay!

1. Tell me about yourself
*I mentioned relative work experience and what I have done in school to prepare for the work-force*
*She followed up on this question with supporting questions relating to what I told her about myself*

2. What do you feel are your strengths that would best suit you for this position?
*I mentioned interpersonal skills, cash handling skills, and customer service skills, which I elaborated on.

3. What cash handling experience did you have in your previous work experiences?
*I had previous experience working in retail as a cashier and lower office manager (handles cash balances, tills, computer systems, etc.)

4. Why this bank?
*I told her that it was a reputable corporation that I had previous dealt with on several occasions, and the customer service was phenomenal, so I knew that it would be a great company to work for (due to the fact that they seem to care about individual customers to such a great extent).

5. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
*I told her that I wanted to be a CPA, and I was in the process of attending such a program in college. I also said that I wanted to do some non-profit work and someday become a financial analyst for a well-known corporation*
*She seemed to like the fact that I was so interested in finance/accounting*

5. Do you have any questions for me?
*I asked her about what is considered full-time and part-time hours, and the locations where jobs are available at this point*

She immediately told me that I have an in-person meeting with the managers on Wednesday, so I think I did well. ; ) Wish me luck!

OMG im so nervous, i have a group interview with Bank of America tomorrow, another group/one-on-one interview with Wachovia Bank on Wednesday and I also got a call from Wells Fargo today but i couldn't answer my phone, so im sure they will call back because i left a message.

Hopefully once i go thru tomorrow's first interview i will be more prepared for the rest of them.

Question,
If they ask, should i let them know that im applying for other banks as well?
I ask this because on todays phone interview with Wachovia they asked "why did you choose wachovia"? ....so i mean....should i even mention that i have interviews with 2 other banks?

I'm really really nervous...i have a college degree and experience but i've never worked as a teller :/

Any suggestions?

I was a teller for two and a half years and I can tell you that these interviews are 90% personality. They want to know that you speak clearly, that you are people friendly and that you learn very quickly. Tellers are the face of the bank and are the first interaction the customer has with the financial institution. It's important for you to be pretty good with numbers and to be able to solve problems as you would do so on a regular basis. Other than that it is an extremely fun position and will open doors to excellent career opportunities. I am now a member servive representative and enjoy banking very much. Good luck and don't forget to smile.

Angelina thanks you for the response. I definitely have the personality for dealing with people. I working for Providian Financial which was purchase by Washington Mutual bank in the backoffice for 15 years my job was solving probleming dealing with customer credit report and merchant dispute with charge of credit card. This I think is a problem because I have no currect direct face to face contact with customers experience only over the phone and though correspondences or mail.
