How did you get your start doing business analyst work, and what career moves did you make to get to your current position?

Do you need a particular educational background?

Well - there are a number of ways to become a business analyst. The two most common ones are to come from the business side or from the technical side.

If you are strong on the business side (understand the business strategy, operations, etc.) then you should volunteer to be a business stakeholder aka subject matter expert.

If you are strong on the technical side, especially in the area of software development, then you'll probably make an easier transition to the business analyst role. Begin by writing technical specifications and functional specifications. Learn to write clearly.

Hope this helps!
