I believe, as a Business Development Executive, that there are several traits you must possess (ie. intuition, creativity, broad based thinker, .....however, I believe that the 3 Top Traits are:

1) Know your company's product/service offerings from top to bottom.
2) Know, through internal and external research, how your product/service may fit with companies in like and unlike business sectors.
3)Know the marketplace and how to place your product/service relative to the need for it in the market or the value it may have with potential affiliate partners.

Of key importance and previous to the 3 traits; perform a detailed SWOT analysis and determine if you have the strengths to pursue other opportunities.
