My girlfreind is moving out here to SD california, and she is now a registered CNA in virginia. If anyone could tell me how or what she needs to do to transfer her certification, so that she doesnt have to retake the training out here, it would be much appreciated. We've looked all over the internet, and are soon going to give up hope and just put her through the training again. Is the transfer possible? Anyone have a number to call or a link to the forms? Any help would be great.

From the replies above I am assuming that if you have a valid CNA license in another state you have to start over again in North Carolina? Is this true? Does anyone know a number to call here in NC?

it is really easy first of all get in contact which the state you are moving to and let them send you the paper you need to filled out.then filled out the paper work and make sure you get the document that is need from the school you attend(they will be asking for this) and if you can wait for them to send it back to you then this will be great for you.if not then you might have to wait until they do the paper work to get you working.

NG-
The local Red Cross in San Diego may be
able to give you the number and address to the State Certification in CA. What you girlfriend should ask for is called
"reciprocity". It is unlikely, however, if reciprocity is feasible..she will be given a form to complete and mail in.

However, if your girlfriend is not able to receive reciprocity, my advice is that she obtain a CNA Training Book for CA and request to sit for the exam without taking another certification course. Again, the Red Cross may be
the best source as they are leading trainer of CNA's.

My best-A Red Cross volunteer & former Director. DK

what ever the state she has to get a reciprocity it is like a transfer to virgina she has to call the nursing board to that state and they will tell her what to do.

Contact the both Alabama Board of Nursing and Georgia board of nursing to acquire the paperwork needed for reprocity. I know that it's available online for the state of Georgia, not familiar w/ the state of Alabama. Sometimes there are small fees, maybe 25 dollars or so. What I had to do when I transfered my certificate here from Maryland was print the paperwork from GA's website, then I had to have the DON of my place of employment fill out a portion, then I had to fill out a portion and mail it to the Maryland BON and have them fill out their portion and mail it to Georgia BON. It takes a little time and a lot of searching but you'll get it, girl :)Good luck

find out if the state that you are moving to recognize CNA II because not a lot of states recognize us if the state does then apply for reciprocity

For a step by step guide to CNA certification transfer go to www.cnatips.com/cna-license.php and follow the instructions they give you. The site also has a complete list of CNA Registries links and phone numbers, you can choose them by state from the map on bottom of page, here is the link www.cnatips.com/nurse-aide-registry.php. Good luck!

LOOK UP STATE OF GA NURSE AIDE LISTING BY RECIPROCITY, IT DOES SAY THAT THE STATE OF GA WILL TAKE CURRENT CNA FROM OTHER STATE, HAS TO MEET QUALIFICATIONS
1. CURRENTY LISTED ON ANOTHER STATE'S NA REGISTARY W/ ACTIVE STATUS
2. HAS NO PENDING, OR SUBSTANTIATED FINDINGS OF PT ABUSE, NEGLECT, OR MISAPPROPRIATION OF PT PROPERTY RECORDED ON ANOTHER STATE REGISTARY.
3. HAS VALID SS CARD W/ NAME MATCHING THE INDIVIDUALS REGISTARY LISTING IN THE STATE NOTED IN ABOVE #1.
4. HAD BEEN EMPLOYED AS A CNA FOR AT LEAST 8 HRS, FOR PAY, UNDER RN SUPERVISION WITHIN PAST 24 HRS.

Dear friends...
Hope this article will find you guys helpful......Good Luck !
HOW TO APPLY FOR RECIPROCITY IN ANOTHER STATE
What is reciprocity – By Federal and State Laws, you must pass a State prescribed course and test in order to work as a nursing assistant in a nursing home. You also cannot work as a nursing assistant in a nursing home in any state unless you are approved by that state.
If you already are Licensed, Certified, Registered or State Approved in your own State and want to move to another state, you will need to request reciprocity. This means that you are asking the new state to recognize the approval you received from your home state.
How to request reciprocity
1. The first step is to contact the Nurse Aide Registry in your home state and request a “Application for Enrollment By Reciprocity”. Ask them if you should send the completed form to them or to the state to which you are moving.
2. Then contact the other state and ask them the same thing. Some nursing assistants have been able to fax their request directly to the state they are moving into rather than with their home state. Do not take chances, ask. Be sure to get the name of those who talk with you and their phone numbers. Call them by name while you are talking so they remember you.
3. If the agency in your new state says it is acceptable for you to fax or mail info, then do this right away. Be sure to clarify the fax number and the mailing address. Then fax or mail your info to the attention of the person you spoke to. Ask them what items you will need to fax or mail but be prepared to send at least the following:
Copy of your Social Security Card
Copy of your drivers license (or other photo ID)
Copy of your present State approval
Copy of a recent pay stub or something to document that you have worked in a nursing home in the past two years.
Tell them where you are moving from and where to and where they can send the new card.
They may ask for other info as well
4.

I have worked for the federal government for the from april, 2003 to aug., 2008 as a nursing assistant/medical health tech. This was in the state of fl. I was certified in florida prior to working for the government, but while working for government florida changed its program for maintaining certification. I was unaware and is no longer not certified from the state of florida. I now reside in birmingham alabama. Can I still somehow get my certification in the state of alabama from my federal gov. background? I have over 26 years exp. as an c.n.a. and was a medical admin. specialist/e.m.t. with the army. I've been certified in arizona also.
