I was surfing for a free clinic to get my TB testing done for a CNA training coming up in may. I find this forum very useful as there's a good and a bad to everything. I will be attending an CNA training at Northwest Regional Training Center in vancouver wa. It's $700 for class, not including books, background check, scrubs/shoes, the TB testing (that i still need) and others that I've yet to obtain. Has anyone heard of them or have any input that needs to be brought to my attention please let me know. |

Caregiver Training Institute in Portland Oregon is now offering the online nursing assistant training program. You can start the registration process at www.OregonCNAonline.com. Then you must come to the school for an orientation to complete the process and pay for the program. The first 51 hours are online, then you will take the final at the schools computer lab. After that you will be given a choice of lab schedules for the skills practice sessions and finish at a nursing facility for the clinical rotation. We are an OSBN testing facility also, so you would come back to the school to take your state boards after you complete the program. There are also several choices for the clinical rotation schedules; days, evenings and weekends. Our contact info is at www.TheCaregiverTrainingInstitute.com. The cost for the program is the same as our other CNA programs. If you are looking for a free program you should know that nursing facilites must pay you back for any CNA program you pay for. And there is a lot of assistance available out there for paying for this program. Call us and we can help you find that financial help. |

I do not think there is any such thing as a free CNA 2 program. You would have to be hired and most hospitals are now only hiring the person who is already a CNA-2. Sorry |

Hi Ebrima, At Caregiver Training Institute we have evening classes that go a little slower for those who may have some struggles such as test anxiety, do not have daycare for the kids during the day and have someone who can help them out in the evening or struggle with English. These classes are from Monday-Thursday from 5PM to 9:30PM for about 4 weeks in class. Then you would go into the clinical rotation from 3PM to 9:30Pm from Monday-Thursday for about 3 weeks. You have the weekends off and all day also to study and be with the family or perhaps go to work, if you have a job. We are at 13909 SE Stark St. Portland. We have a web site and we are working with a new company to get it looking better. It is at:www.TheCaregiverTrainingInstitute.com We have smaller classes and try to work with people who need a little more help to get through the course. Good luck! Julie Bucher RN Program Director |

dany in Eugene, Oregon said: i was wondering if i got my certificate in Oregon if i could use it in another state Hi Dany, You would need to contact that state at their board of nursing and find out what the issues are with getting them to recognize the current certificate you have. Some states do accept the CNA from Oregon. Others want you to do the transfer before you move. Many boards of nursing have their particular things they want you to do. But do this before going there as some will not just let you transfer to their state after you have moved.

Qualified Florida Certified Behavior Analysts (FL-CBA) will have the option of transferring to BCaBA status. There will be no fee for transfer through April 1, 2005, no fee will be required until the first annual renewal date, and no continuing education will be required to transfer. Individuals who transfer will begin a new BCaBA three-year recertification cycle (annual renewal the first two years, recertification with continuing education due the third) on July 1, 2005, when all BCaBA recertification standards, recertification rules, recertification policy and recertification fees will apply. Unless otherwise specified, these individuals must adhere to all BACB standards, rules, and policies. Individuals who currently hold both BCaBA and FL-CBA certification and elect to retain their FL-CBA certification will continue in their existing BCaBA recertification cycle with fees and continuing education due as scheduled. =======================================

Hi I need to know wheres a good place in the portland area that does free cna classes, I dont have alot of money. I used to be a cna but had a couple kids and was home with them. if anyone knows of a good place plese reply thanks! |

To tinygirl in happy Valley; the free programs are okay, but you are locked into the job and if you interview with them and tell them you cannot work certain shifts (like nights), then they may not let you into the program. They are only looking to fill in the needed employees for their building. They are not really interested in training someone who is not interested in their job. I know how this works, I trained for a free program for a while and found it to not be the type of program I was proud to be associated with. As for not being able to afford the CNA programs, here is some advise for anyone wanting to get this training; There is help with the cost of any CNA program. If you not working (even if you are NOT on unemployment)you can go to ANY employment office and ask to sign up with the worksource funding program to get vocational training paid for. You will fill out an application, go to THEIR orientation program and do some aptitude testing. Then when you meet with the counselor, tell them what you are trying to do and they will help you with choosing the program you need. If you are working part-time or UNDER employed, you can go to SE Works on Foster Rd and about 68th or 70th. They have funding to help cover the costs of these vocational training programs too. Caregiver Training Institute is on the lists of all of these funding programs. We offer daytime, evening and weekend classes. And, we are now offering an online CNA training program. Call us and come to one of our orientations to get more information on where to go for help getting this program paid for. Our new web site is up and has a lot of good information on it. Check us out at: www.TheCaregiverTrainingInstitute.com Our address and phone are there. Call today! It is for YOUR FUTURE and we can help! |

valeriepricebsn in Portsmouth, Virginia said: Are you really sure you want to spend the tuition for CNA certification? The tuition cost versus the wage offset is depressing. I am a Nurse manager for a local hospital in Virginia Beach and I see first hand what CNA's must perform as job responsibilities. Now mind you, I am NOT telling you that CNA's can not provide for themselves, but the salary is meager. Before venturing down this path, find out exactly what the positions are paying and what responsibilities are required. Most likely, if not selective you will end up in a nursing home changing bed pans, removing dirty diapers and tuition will be due. So please consider this very carefully. As I am trying to pursue my nursing license, I am being told that it is helpful to work as a cna first. I have been reading about the Caregiver Training Institue. While I am taking esl classes my english needs a little work. Do you have a class for those who are learning english like Clark College in Vancouver does? |

I live in Vancouver and Clark College has an I-Best CNA class for people that are learning english. You have to demonstrate a certain level of understanding of english but the classes are paced slower and there is an esl instructor who teaches along side the CNA instructor. The cost is approx. 800 to 900 for the class. There is an Opportunity Grant for $1000 that is offered by Clark College to help with the cost. However you have to have lived in the US or Vancouver (I am not sure which) for 1 year to qualify. The problem is that it is very competitve to get into the class since there are only 17 spots open but 3 or 4 times that amount applying. And the certification is only good for working in Washington so you can't really use it to work anywhere in Oregon. |

Absolutly! Our evening class is at a slower pace and we use a really nice text book that has everything you need for the program but is easy to read and understand. Also, the instructor is very sweet and easy to understand. That class is only from Mon-Thurs too. The class runs for 4 weeks, from 5pm to 9:30pm. Then the clincal runs for 3 weeks from 3pm to 9:30pm. Also, we are an OSBN testing facility so you get to test right here where you were trained. That helps many people feel more confident and probably get a better score. Call today to get more information on our free orientations, or go to our web page and get information there. Our NEW web page is full of info and will soon have schedules on it. At: www.TheCaregiverTrainingInstitute.com we look forward to helping you get your future in the medical field started. Hope this helps! Julie Bucher, RN Program Director |

I see two ways to get free CNA training. Sometimes nursing homes will offer free training, sometimes in return for a promise to work as a CNA for them for a certain time. Or you might be able to get a gvmt agency like Worksource Oregon to pay for your training if you are unemployed. I work for Cascade Medical School which trains CNAs and lots of our students get their CNA training paid for by Worksource. Check with them. Or check the website for the Oregon State Board of Nursing, www.oregon.gov/OSBN, click on Education Programs, and it will list all the approved CNA programs in Oregon. Good luck! |

Hello Bosnia-- I did a little research online. I came up with a couple of names of NA training programs in Vancouver. Keep in mind that WA and OR have separate certifications and that your CNA in one state is only good in that state. Usually you can get the other state to issue a card in the second state on the basis of your original certification though. Anyhow, here is what I found:
Highland Terrace Nursing Center Camas
Good luck! Bill

whatever you do, DONT go to the caregiver training institute. they are money hungry and will do everything they can to make you spend more. they said they sold thei supplies "at cost", yet i found the same supplies at life uniform for 10 dollars less. the instructors have never done CNA work and teach your by literally just sitting there and reading the textbook to you (the textbook that you HAVE to buy even though no one uses/brings it, you arent given the option of not buying it or buying it cheaper through someone else). all of the patients in the nursing home at west hills hate the clinical instructor and now wont work with students because of the instuctors. whatever you do avoid this school, it is a mess. not to mention its in a not so nice area and have their windows broken on a regular basis. |

Ebrima A Jallow in Vancouver, Washington said: I would love to attend this cna class.Would you help me with the address and the phone number of Marquis care system Hello Ebrima! Full Disclosure: I am with Cascade Medical School, a CNA training school in Portland. A good source of information is the website of the Oregon State Board of Education, OSBN for short, at www.oregon.gov/OSBN. From their main page, click on "Education Opportunities" on the left-hand column and you will find a roster of all approved CNA (and CMA and CNA-2) training programs in OR there. (Keep in mind that CNA certification is only good for employment in the state where you get your certificate, so an Oregon CNA is not recognized in Washington, for example). Marquis is a national nursing home chain and I'm not sure if they do the kind of free training you are seeking in OR, but you should find contact info there if they do. For what it's worth, my impression (what with the economy and all) is that there is not much free CNA training going on currently. On the other hand there are government agencies in Oregon (think Worksource Oregon, or the Southeast Center on Foster Road in Portland, for example) where, if you fit their categories, you can get financial help with CNA training. Another little known fact is that, if you personally have to pay for CNA training, when you are eventually hired as a CNA the company hiring you by law has to reimburse those training costs during your first year of employment as a CNA, one-twelfth per month. (Warning: the year starts as soon as you get your CNA, so it is in your interest to start work ASAP). But you have to ASK for it when you are hired and be able to produce proof of your payments for training costs. So your CNA training costs EVENTUALLY would be paid back if you don't mind waiting for a year! I hope this information is helpful. Bill |

I would like to attend Caregivers Trainng Institute or Cascade Medical School. I would like to know if there is anything out there that can help someone who is working but not making very much money. Worksource is no help unless you are unemployed and neither is Workstop or any of the other agencies. Is there anyone that has any information about some sort of payment plan? People just want to take care of themselves -- sometimes they just need some information. |
