tanguera in Woodside, New York said: Hey Sunnyside, did you ever complete a CNA course around Queens? I am based in Woodside, Queens but am willing to travel to Manhattan or Brooklyn to take a CNA course. I just want to know which schools are better, which ones finish quickly (4 or 5 weeks.. or less?) and how much schools cost.

I have read posts on here to stay away from certain schools, but is there anyone who had a really great experience with their CNA course? And do they help you find a job easily?

there is a school call NY institute of medical careers right in woodside on 68 or 69th street. The CNA instructor there is pretty good. and they are the cheapest by far. The school itself is kinda smelly due to the owner of the school. but other then that they have pretty much everything you needed with the best price.

FYI: The Allen School in Jamaica, Queens is almost $1400 and they don't give you any information over the phone. They don't give unemployment reimbursement or financial aid either.

Question: Are there any colleges that offer CNA classes in Queens/Nassau?

Yes! North Shore Career Training Institute in Ronkonkoma. Summer classes start June 28 for the day, and July 12th for the Eves. I would love to do the evenings but I also need a free course - They are even pretty cheap $998 (compared to $1400 of other schools).

You can always go to the Workforce Center in your area and see if your eligible for a grant to go to school. Or you can get free classes at the EOC if you meet their requirements. But all said and done please do understand that all legal CNA classes have to be taught by either LPN's or RN's. These professionals to command a very high salary to teach. Their teaching capacity and salary do go hand in hand. Before you enroll in any school please do ask the admissions rep what the "School's Passing Percentage" is. This is a percentage that the Dept of Health maintains and is very indicative of how well the school and it's teachers are performing.

Hi Chai:
Type in the Adult Educational centers or try the adult educational centers for CNA training. Their training is free.
One is located in Manhattan on 119th street between 7th ave and st. nicholas ave.
Also in Brooklyn on Nostrand ave (2) blocks form fulton street. It's the old girls high school, you ride the A train to Nostrand avenue. Then there is workforce centers, you need to have six months work experience in order to apply for the grant for CNA training. The training is (3) months and you learn everything, phlebotomy, ekg, etc.

Hi I have no idea how old is it., but anyway if you still asking about CNA Cert.> This Is what I did, I am Filipina, learnt in the Phils as 1 Yr Health Aide course. I worked in Manila, Phils,. , Singapore and Germany for almost 2o yrs.,m Then came to USA and married with American Nationality. I submitted mt Diplom or any Cert that I am CNA Grad & Qualified as Nurse assiatant. Department of Health & Services GRANTED it. I took all my Papers to a Notary Public, worth nothing a good friend of my hubby. few weeks DHS sent me APPROVAL. I just called RED CROSS and Fax the APPROVAL from DHS. Red Cross scheduled me for TEST Skills & Written Test. It was HARD but with hard working and GOD Blessings ! I did passed the exam. Get books in any Red Cross $25, Fee for Test $95 or $90. Now I am just waiting for my Cert. Once you passed the 2 Tests , while the Original Cert is on the way, you can apply for a job ! I hope it will help you. Good luck and God bless all CNA.

Best regards NK511

hi! by the way where did you got your CNA Certification ??? If i am not mistaken you told in forum that you are graduate already??? Did I understand it right? AS I have said you have to contact the Department of Health Services in your place., submit all your documents or any certification what you have. They are going to prove it if its real or whatever. But the most important thing is, you have to ask the DHS if your CERTIFICATION will be accepted and approved by them, ask if you can take CNA written Test & skills test by the RED CROSS, Go to the nearest RED CROSS to your place or CALL THEM FIRST and ask if you can take the CNA CERTIFICATION with them. IF THEY SAID, YES, ask for the CNA REVIEWER BOOK less $30 here in California. It helped me alot because there is some reviewer with questions and answers. , for written and skills test. Its a great book because it, expalined everythings there, all you have to do is to Learn, READ & READ & READ !!! You don't need to memorize all you have to do is to understand what is in the book.
If you take exams, 70 questions maybe 10 are in the book but mostly common sense ! That's why you have to get that book READ & UNDERSTAND.. Take your Time. I'm not even good in english, since I was in Germany I forgot my english. But I graduated in Manila, english is our 2nd language its just a matter of FAITH IN GOD & TRUST YOURSELF and sure you will make it.
Good luck again, NK511
