Penny H in Columbus, Ohio said: I really need to know if there is anyone out there who could help me out on this..... I have sign up to take STNA classes in April.[I'm bitting the bullet and paying, which will be hard for me] so I have been calling nursing home, ass. living places ect. to see about working for them as a STNA/CNA and have found out that these places ONLY pay $7.50 to $8.00 dallors an hour.... my question is... why would I pay $600.00 + to go to school so I can go to work as a CNA for only $7.50 an hour? usually if you dont have your license your pay is 7.50-8.00/hour when you complete your classes and become certified your pay will go up to 10-13.00/hour. |

There are several of us in Chillicothe who have signed up for the p/t evening & weekend lpn program, which is supposed to have been created and geared towards working people. They are requiring us to take nurse aide training and have scheduled these classes three evenings per week, in addition to our regular lpn class. Essentially, we would be in class four evenings a week, whic his not possible for several of us. We're looking to see if there is some place that would offer a weekend class. Given the fact the state mandated hours for this training is 75 hours, we'd be willing to take a class 8 hours on Sat & Sun for 5 weeks, or 8 hours on Sat. OR Sun. for 10 weeks. If there is anyone out there who knows of such a program, please let me know asap. |

When I did a Search,I only saw Menorah Park Center for Senior Living that offers free training and they are in Beachwood. The only other place I know about that has STNA classes, besides the Red Cross,is Lorain County Community College. I know it costs about $500 and the training is done at 2 places but I could not get any more information, the program director did not answer my e-mail to her. So I don't know how often it is offered or if there is a waiting list. The number to call for more information is 440-366-4500. |

If you have not worked at least one 12 hour shift a year during that time your certification is no longer valid and you need to retake the class and test over again. sorry to give you bad news. Margie in Columbus, Ohio 48 months ago |
I am not aware of free training in Canton, but Absolute Health offers day and night classes in this area. Please call 1-800-990-1113 and ask for Ina Lauer. Or you can call Ina directly at 1-330-498-8212. Thank you for you interest. |

Hi Lisa, Can't tell you of any free training except through some LTC'S [nursing homes] but give the State of Ohio Job Source a try. They may be able to guide you to low or no interest loans, maybe even outright grants if your income, family situation or transitions in your life qualify you. I wish you the best of luck. I understand not wanting to work the nursing home route. It's demanding and even though the need is enormous, the pay is low, many places don't treat you very well, burn out is common and the hours STINK. Peace, Jim |

Has anyone heard/know of any reviews on the Med-Cert program in Cleveland, OH? I am looking for an STNA program, preferably for night or weekend training. I tried calling Med-cert and was given the run around about their program, so I'm not sure if they are legit. What should I be looking for in finding an accredited STNA program? I am starting an RN program through college in the fall, but would like to make a career move into the heath-field in the meantime. Any info would be great. Thanks |

LC in Cleveland, Ohio 48 months ago Guide |
Never heard of them til now. I see they got a good review on Yahoo. If the cost is $475,then that is near to what LCCC wants. Have you thought of going there,or to the Red Cross? |
