How to become CRA

I am a recent graduate student who is very interested in becoming a CRA. I am currently enroll in CRA program but it is seems to not be enough to get entry level position in this field. Does anyone know company, hospital etc where I could start my career as CRA

Hi Melissa,

This is a field that is hard to get into unless you have already established a research background or know some insiders. One of few CROs who offer entry level positions and a great training is PPD. But I heard that it may still take you a year of "in-house" CRA functions before you get to manage study sites. Nevertheless, a start is a start.

It seems like a lot of clinical research companies are based in Austin or have a presence there, e.g. PPD, PRA, pretty sure there are more, but can't remember them off the top of my head. So, is Austin better for getting a job in clinical research (say, as a CRA or coordinator)?

I am looking for a career change and I am highly interested in clinical research. Does anyone know of any online courses for this line of work? I have been told this is not a degreed position and certification is required + training. I currently work in the medical field, and I am looking to start a course right away if possible.

The biggest one with presence in Austin is PPD. The company has a pretty big Phase I clinic and over 1000 employees there. This makes the transition from project assistant-coordinator-CRA easier. Plus they have one of the best training programs. Getting certified or online training is find and all that but it makes no difference without experience and exposure. That's what most sponsors want and PPD is one of a few that gives you the chance.

I am currently working at a CRO in Piscataway, NJ. Attached to the CRO is an Institute where I began as a student 3 months ago. The school is called American Scitech Institute. Its a very thorough educational program. The classroom training is 6 months in duration upon completion you will be CRA certified and have the option to participate in a paid internship. Once you have completed the internship you can either be hired directly by American Sci Tech International or we can place you in an affiliated CRO. If you work hard, communicate well and pick up the information quickly you can be hired quicker. I was in the same position many science majors are in 3 months ago and the school has provided me with numerous opportunites. The best part about the program is that the 6 months of class and the 6 months of the internship are all considered experience. So when the recruiter or the company asks if you are certified or have experience you can finally say YES to both. I hope this helps. I had gone through a certification for Medical product development I did not get the job there as the Clinical trials program and the MPD program overlap each other so I went on to complete the Clinical trials which I am about to do now well since i have a MD from a foreign country I would prefer the Clinical trials but I have tried very much ti get an internship in Clinical Research but to no avail any suggestions.thankyou

I know exactly what you are looking for, it is very true with out having real time experience you will not feel confident. I know a place where you can get complete training and after finishing the course you will be offered paid internship. This will give you total one year of real time experience.

Call; American Scitech Research Institute @ 732 981 8686 or go to their website craschool.com. Here you will get formal CRA training and after that paid intership that will help you having real time experience. This is the only way to get entry level position.

You need to contact American Scitech Research Institue @ 732 981 8686 or go to their website craschool.com. You will get formal training and paid internship that will give you full one year real time experience in CRA. This institute is a part of CRO; American Scitech International. They hire their own students.

May be it seems like Austin is a better place but NEW Jersey, NY, Pennsylvania have more job opportunities
there is shortage of good well trained CRAs.

PPD always look for well experience people. No chance of getting any position without experience. They may have fantastic training program but they only hire experience people
