Sorry, but I didn't feel like reading everyone elses posts right now (will read later tho)My mother is interested in challenging the board. CNA/RNA for 22 years in NH care. I am currently looking for a pharmacology course for her, but am concerned about whether the test will contain questions on maternity, mental health or pediactric nursing. If u have never worked in these fields would it be smart to still take the tests? or does it the test not have questions like these? I know nursing is mostly common sense, but still... Thanx :) |

I'm a cna and I would love to challenge the LVN test but I've only been certified since Aug 2008. I worked in a facility that had mental health, long term care and acute care. I would love to further my education. Although a community college is way cheaper I have 3 little ones and not all the time in the world. I live in long beach and was wondering if they have any school/programs that would count me having my CNA certificate towards any credits. Please HELP!!! Any info would be appreciated. |

Even if you have an Associate's Degree they will make you retake courses if you had not received credit for these within the last 3-5 yrs depending on the school you go to. I have not come across any school that gives credit *just* for getting certified for nursing assistance. You *can* look up programs and obtain certification for Pharmacology requirement, start getting all of the experience documentation ready for your file, and look for employment in pediatrics and maternity now to get those requirements satisfied. Even if you volunteer its better time spent then spending thousands on courses unless you're getting your degree for RN. It may get your foot in the door at the very least. |

This California LVN #3, is not useful any where, but California. Trust me, I have checked throughout the Nation. I found out that it is peculea to California. I have challenged it and I passed with flying color; I spent less than one hour on the test before the computer shot me off. Since then I couldn't do anything with it, but to continue studing by regtering for my RN online. I hope this one works out because I am tired of working like an elephant and eating like an ant. Good luck to all of you who want to go the same rout. |

Hi Isreal in Katy: I am Jackie a CNA here in the Alief area here in Houston. I am about to start the Pediatric and Labor & Delivery portions of California's requirements for LVN #3. But like yourself I have also noticed that most of the comments on this message board is between PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA. I have yet to encounter ANYONE who has actually taken this route from CNA to LVN who lives here in TEXAS. I know that the process is that you must fullfill the Med-Surg, Pediatric and L&D requirements, have your supervisor(s) fill out and sign the paperwork, include the fees for background check, finger printing etc.,send it all off, wait to see if they find you eligible to challenge the LVN test through California, complete the Pharmacolgy course requirement, take the exam at Pearsons here in Houston, pass your exam and then proceed to reciprocate your license from California to Texas. So after ALL THAT, when you applied for LVN positions here in Texas did these human resources interviewers verbalize any particular concerns with your license? Texas is very strict so I wonder if they didn't like the fact that there was no actual SCHOOL involved, that no CLINICALS were done or that I.V. Therapy was not required to obtain an LVN license. Please reply and fill me in. I TOO DON'T WANT TO WORK LIKE AN ELEPHANT AND EAT LIKE AN ANT. Thanks. |

I had been receiving calls from people of interest about the Method3: Qualification Based on Expeience and/or Equivalency, commenting asking if it is true. What I can tell you is visit the boards website= www.bvnpt.ca.gov do it with Google search engine and you will be taken directly to the site and you will see - Application fo Vocational Nurse by Examination click on that and it will open a page that shows all the 4 Methods of examination, click the Method3 and read it over and over again or print it or highlight the Method3 information and save it on your desktop, what I suggest to interested applicants after they lay out to me what experiences do they have is give them a sheet of the Verification of Employment, I tell them if you can work on that Form fill that out and have your charge nurse sign you off to confirm those work hours that's when your journey begins, that will be the time you look for an accredited /approve Pharmacology class (by BVNPT or BRN) and work on the other requirements while yu are on the process of finishing up your Pharmacology class. Do not ask around call the board the number is on their website and when you call ask to be transfered to an education evaluator and ask the name of the person you are talking with make notes of questions you want to ask write down the ans the time and day you called so you have proof that you have called in and spoke to Ms. SO AND SO. that simple. Call and speak to the right people that can give you the right answers. Read the whole information about the Method3. To all out of State interested applicants, I have once spoken to an out of State Board of Nursing, and they told me as long as it is accredited /approved by the BVNPT of California and as long as that out of State do process RECEPROCITY that California acquired LVN License is okay, meaning when you go back to your State as long as they process RECEPROCITY then you can transfer your California LVN License to yourState's LPN License, do I make sense |

297 in Sacramento, California said: NO, you have to be a Certifield Nursing Assistant, and or have military experience Actually...you don't have to be a certified nursing assistant, you just have to have nursing experience.(You get'credit' for having a certificate but not required). Depending on the setting that Medical Assistants work they may qualify as well (I know of a few that have). The State Board is the only one that can tell you what they will count as nursing experience,

I tried to do this challenge, gathering all the info. The board even replied to me telling what I needed. Including a letter from an RN back east I can't find now. So I stopped. Even spoke to Anna C. concerning her Pharm class. So I'm back to square one and now I see the board page no longer dislpays the Pharm class providers. Or I can't find it. Can someone HELP ME?! |

I imagine that because so many on the list did not meet the requirements (the list went from about 10 of us to over 35 listed!) and enough students complained--I've even had some students repeat the pharm class with me because the board didn't accept they class taken!

Hi, I too have been a CNA for over 11 years! Let me ask you, do you have 51 months experience! You need to take the NCLEX-PN exam according to the bvnpt board! It goes like this: Medical-Surgical Nursing: 48 months, for maternity/Genitourinary Nursing, 1.5 months, and finally Pediatric Nursing, also 1.5 months, which is what i need to qualify for the exam! Here is what i did, took phamacology and passed it, then took a NCLEX-PN review course to prepare for this test! I would recommend going that route when going for the exam, you will get better results! Also, make sure you get all your paper work for work experience in order and send them what they ask and in the matter they asked for it! Bottom line: satisfy the paerwork and work requirements and you should have no problem qualifying to take the exam! By the way I could use some help! As i mentioned, I need 1.5 months pediatric experience and evryone is turning me down, esp. children's hospital, can you recommend or help towards finding a place, a nursing home for kids or any hospital in need of yhese types of workers, who willm also be willing to train, let me know and go luck with your path, hope what I told you will helpm you out! The LVN board website: www.bvnpt.ca.gov, take care now, bye! |

Cookie, according to the bvnpt board for LVn's, the letter they sent me goes like this: you need 48 months of Medical-Surgical Nursing, and 1.5 months of Maternity/Genitourinary Nursing and 1.5 months pediatric nursing! Also, send in all required paper work, etc. that they ask for and in the manner they ask for it in! The website is www.bvnpt.ca.gov and look under method 3, it should tell yoyu this and everything else you need and need to do to qualify for the exam, ok! Thanks again, hoped that helped, bye! |

One of those rough days, I survived Irene hurricane doing my NCLEX-VN in greensboro, NC! My story is weird, I have 4.5 experience, no maternity but substituted by urogenital since im a male, btw very difficult in nc to get maternity for males and worked in doctors office.I have IT background, laid off 2 years ago and stumbled on minnay.com back in april. Did pharma in 2 weeks, and submitted the paperwork and also did their board review, I am waiting for official note from the board and proceed with my rn. I want to encourage folks never to give up, this was my first exam in health care and I was really nervous but I kind like had concept for all the questions asked. Clack |
