In the near future I plan on going to school for my LPN. I want to start with getting my CNA liscense. How do you get certified without having to be employed with a company for example a nursing home and not taking online courses or having to take a year course? Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

It will all depends if you got the charge in the state where you live, if so,I think they go back 10 years. You can take the test and answer the questions to CHARGES, honestly, they will probable contact you and ask you for an explanation, if they have any question, and if there if they are wiling to give it to you. If they approve after revising the case they will let you know. I hope this helps |

Hello, I was wondering if you could help me on the right track to obtaining my CNA license. I would be willing to pay for my own classes which are offered at Hillyards every month for about $320.00. The problem with that is, I need to find employment in a healthcare setting before I'd be accepted into the program. With that said, maybe I should find employment with someone who also offers the training free. But I'm not sure if working in nursing homes is where I want to end up. Any advice on how to get a job without any formal training or licenses in a healthcare setting so I can begin career? Thank you. Please email me at alleyzworld@msn.com Also, I am from Missouri, if that helps. |

Christine, I'm not sure about the programs where you live, but here in Georgia the Department of Labor pays for the CNA training for qualifying individuals. You should contact your state Department of Labor and find out if they offer the same assistance. Since you're on unemployment, maybe your unemployment contact can give you information on agencies that help with funding. I'm not sure what the requirements are but here I believe you have to have a high school diploma or GED. They will administer a competency test and I imagine acceptance is based on income level, which you would probably qualify for since you're on unemployment. The program here also pays for childcare. Based on the needs of your son, you should also check to see if he qualifies for SSI, which might help you out financially as well. Contact your Social Security office and they will tell you what you need to do and ask your doctor's office if they believe he would qualify. Good luck! christine harris in Auburn, Indiana said: i started to go to school for lpnbut could not get the help i needed to finish and get help while in school have son living with me that has extrophy of bladder so have to help him out not able to work on unemployment which is ready to run out and want more then ever to be cna right now till get back on feet and cant get any funding to help out please help me want this more then ever and live in auburn indiana wanting to know if theres nursing homes or any places where i can get cna licenses please help thank you |

ok so once again thanks for the information. it was a big help. but i had a follow up question im hopeing someone can answer. i was wonderin what kind of subjects you would study, for example is it a lot of math or science? and do u study alot of things you wouldnt think would pertain to that to much? for example i was studing to be a paralegal and i had to take a class on the history of economics. |
|
Lisa in Savannah, Georgia 51 months ago |
Sarah, unless you take the CNA class at a technical school or other college atmosphere, I don't think you will be taking any math or science subjects. CNA classes are usually from 2-8 weeks long depending on where you take it and focus strictly on the skills / infection control procedures you will be doing as a CNA. If you are taking it at a tech school, then they may require you to take math and science classes. My tech school requires a biology course, diversity in healthcare course, patient care fundamentals and interpersonal relations and professional developement (4 courses total) for a combined 19 credit hours. The way they have it set up, it would take someone 2 quarters or about 6 months to complete. That is way to long for a CNA class in my opinion so I opted to go through a private company and finished my course in a little over 5 weeks. I would definitely weigh your options before choosing a school that would require you to take all kinds of other classes to get your CNA. It's helpful if you plan to continue on to LPN or RN but now if you just want your CNA. All of the information I've given is how it relates to my area of GA so it could differ for your city and state. Thank your for you response. Is this online?? Also I am in the process of changing careers but upon evaluation of my job skills and to conserve time and money I would opt to take the certification test. I ventured away from the field but I did the work before as well as need to reinstate my practical nursing license. Thanks. |

I just moved here from Kentucky and we had many places to get our CNA training done but I am finding it difficult to find a nursing home or something that will pay for me to get my training. I would like to find a place that will pay me to take the course. The only place I have found is in La Grange KY but that is a long drive. So if anyone knows of any places around me that offer that then please contact me at Misty_brownmackie@yahoo.com |

Your local college should be able to help you. I went through the continuing ed. dept. @ Navarro College to get mine in 1994 & just went back through the course to renew it. There are also scholarships & or grants to help pay for this |
