Hi,

I'm about to start my business as a self-employed councler
Unfortunately, I cannot afford to rent an office. The overhead is too high.
What do you think about home visits? Can I make a business out of it?
I want it as a part-time business, at this point.
If you could get clients easily, would you do it? as a second job?

John, I think you could do it if you targeted the right niche. I have a friend who works in private practice and she has 3-4 clients who have social anxiety. She goes to their house. She also charges them for her travel time. That would be a very interesting niche to focus on if you wanted to do home visits -- make up a flyer and some business cards and go around to 4-5-6 doctor's offices and see what kind of referrals you might be able to set up for yourself. Another thing to consider -- is Skype. You could travel to their house and supplement those visits with Skype sessions. Check the regulations in your area/country but Skype is an acceptable venue to deliver counseling in my state in the U.S. (NY) when face-face is not possible, according to our state regulations. Best of luck to you!
