Nccer requires you to go through their training modules to take their test. Nccco requires you to be knowledgeable of their testing requirements, written and practical before you test. That is why there are schools that have training programs you pay large $$ for this knowledge. In fairness, Nccer isn't cheap. You pay for both training or you get your training through a trade program such as an apprenticeship. Nccer proponents feel that program, gives thurough training in comparison to just the Nccco testing. Neither one or the other are Federally required at this time. Some employers require neither and others require one or even both. OSHA Safety programs and certification complete any additional training provided by Nccer programs to the Nccco. Some employers require OSHA certs ie: 10/30 HR, Hazwoper and others. Nccer may cover some of this information but it does not certify you as to the Department of Labor. Any training that promotes a safer work is a good thing. Only employer requirements need be met now. Get all qualifications you can afford, it only adds to your flexibility in the job maket.
