Is the "Tower Crane School of Phoenix" a good and reputible school?

They offer a 18 day / 180hr course w/ NCCCO certification prep & testing for: Tower Crane, SM&LG Telescopic Crane, as well as Lattice Boom Crane. Schooling costs $7625.

Would you consider this a good school? If you've graduated from there please tell about your experiences.

I have a CDL-A, and years of experience with other heavy equipment such as loaders, excavators, ect. I would be willing to travel anywhere, even the dirty south, or international. Can a fresh graduate with only school crane experience land a job & get seat time, or is that wishful thinking?

Excuse me, I'm the wife of a 20 yr veteran crane operator, who lives in the south, First all you need to change your attitude, it is gentlemen with that attitude that gives these hard working , family supporting, elite group of men a bad rep. Oh, I'm also a transplant from the North, and if you think you are going to make it as a tower crane operator in the South with that attitude it is wishful thinking, apply at McDonald's you may go farther.

It's people like you why there are so many crane accidents. Don't pay your way In work your way in you worm..

no I didn't go to the school I'm a ten year crane operator. If you go to that school and get a job you will end up killing someone or getting fired. You can't learn in a month how to take care of a high rise building. Get a job as a flagger and work your way up for your safety and everyones below your hook. Also it's a waist of money right now for you because there are senior operators at the house without work. Who are contractors gonna hire you with 180 hrs of class or someone with 20 years exp.

Ive got experience workin as a rigger and flagman.I know the aspect of danger that comes with the job.my plan is start on a boom and work my way up.

Lots of companies won't hire you from that school I know our company won't. Bc is all they teach is how to pass the course you can teach anybody that.

Ya it's finally starting to slow down I've been lucky my project was two years. Work is slowing down though. They just over built everywhere and there is not much high rise left except hospital work or court houses. I got lots of friends who are traveling to keep busy or are just sitting and waiting. It will boom again in the next couple years and that's when the time to get into it is.

wishful thinking, dude i did that school and the teacher was the most un professional rude and didnt care i have ever met. The office got all kinds of wrong and guess what yeah i passed but , no job -

save your money , i was lucky and have been able to operate some small T`s and get some time, but alot of vets @ the house -

i am now wondering and looking again for another project , but open to a support position also , dont need a seat right away . `i`ll rigg or something

Tower Crane School of Phoenix, teachs concrete bucket placement training, hanging steal and many other things.Every thing you do you must do with all the boom and jib The NCCCO is only 50% of the training. They have 4 students working 2 shifts running tower and mobile cranes in phoenix next to I-10 right now. Find another school that does that. plus had over 30 student operators running cranes in Las Vegas. Must me guys who make those commnets failed to show they could operate a wheel barrow so they talk this trash.

What was cool about the school was the instructor would not take crap from people who had no business every getting near a crane. I went there 2 years ago and from there I am one of the students operator who started off with the small cranes and now I'm working on both hydro and tower crane right now in phoenix. some got it and some don't. this school help change my life. I was there when these so called operatore came to test and could not hit a wall if they tired yet they are out in cranes. They tell you from the get go you start off with the smaller cranes and move up. Go look at the video of expereiced crane operator on that school web site and that is what is scarcy.

The schools r a good thing considering most states and several industries are going to require NCCCO certification to operate a Crane on any job site. But try to understand that the school only provides the basic knowledge needed for Crane operation. That being said I went to ATS for mobile cranes which is a good program. However the scary part was on the final week prior to exams they open the class for experienced operators. Less than 50% of these men some with 20 years experience were able to pass the practical coarse let alone the written exam. This means the majority of these operators that work in cranes every day are incapable of performing very basic functions with a Crane and have little or no knowledge of written rules and regulations reguarding safe operations. Don't even get me started on them trying to figure load charts which is a very important factor on the job... it was like watching a bunch of third graders trying to do college calculus. This is why state and industry standards are enforcing NCCCO because these are the guys that have been in the field in years past without proper knowledge or ability causing incidents.

I went there and was certified on all 5 kinds of cranes. I've now worked in all 5 and haven't had a day off yet nor have I come anywhere close to an accident. Like Bigguns said... some got it, some don't. It's all common sense and physics... are you short on either of those? I went from $40K to $120K thanks to Ronnie Gray. The 20 year vets that are sitting at home are waiting for a call from the union. If they would quit crying and get off their can they could find a job. Complain about it all you want but that school changed my life.
