Hi everyone, I would like to know how I am able to practice dental hygiene in the UAE. For example, is there a board exam I need to take, or a license that I need to obtain? I will be certified in Canada as a Registered Dental Hygienist soon. I have looked on the MOH website, and cannot find any concrete information. Please let me know the process. Thanks,

Thanxs Stacey!I believe that everything has been said about working as a hygienist in Dubai. We covered the application and registration process, the working conditions and hours and the fact that salary package is mostly on a commission basis. You have to negotiate all that yourself as obviously the dentist wants to pay as little as possible and you might want as much as possible as a salary package. As a single person income, working in Dubai is almost impossible.Surviving on a hygienist salary alone is very difficult. The average salary can range from 8000 AED - 35000 AED per month, depending on your hours worked, your commission structure, what procedures you do eg. mostly scale and polish or 5-7 ZOOM whitening pt's. per week.If you have no children and do not need to pay school fees, then maybe you will cope well, but if you are responsible for the school fees, then your salary will not be enough. So, please do not think there is a magic number to ask for,it all depends on your own negotiating skills, the clinic you work for and the prices they charge for procedures. If your clinic charges 250AED per scale and polish and my clinic charges 550AED per scale and polish,I will be earning more than you! So do not feel embarrass to ask the dentist to see the fee schedule for procedures. Work out how many pt. you might be able to see on one day at those charges.-work out your commissions from the total and if you can survive on that salary, then accept the job.If you think it is too little, then ask for higher salary or commission per pt. Colleagues, please read through ALL the old postings before asking a question. It has been covered before.I get a lot of private email from fellow hygienist or dentist, and seldom do I reply now a days as I know it has been spoken about in previous comments. I can advise NOT to apply for a job through an agency as they are expensive and it won't work in Dubai.I personally don't know any dentist or hygienist whom gained employment this way. |

rivan jajou in Windsor, Ontario said: Hello Hi Rivan, I worked as a dental hygienist in Dubai for 4 years, and I absolutely loved it. When I went job hunting, they seemed to prefer younger females, so they would train them from "scratch" according to office policies. I had to move back to Canada after I got married. If you're between the ages of 18-27, I can put you in contact with my previous employer, because I know he was looking for a Canadian graduate RDH for his dental office just at the outskirts of Dubai. Its pretty amazing!! Please let me know. Jessica |

Hi everyone, I am sorry if the answer to my question is already been said but I just want to do a little bit of digging. My wife is a Dental Hygienist who works in the UK. she has 3 years of experience. is it easy for her to get a job in Dubai and how much would her salary be as a Dental Hygienist? I am getting a job offer as a sales man. so hopefully both of us will find a job. How much roughly do we need to earn to live a nice life style in Dubai? I'd really appreciate your help |

yes you do need exams and they require all your practising certificates and graduating certificates. They do an oral exam to see if you are up to their standard. If you are coming bring all your paperwork with you attested in your country before you come.

she will need all her certificates and qualifications attested before coming. They are very strict and must be qualified. They have an oral exam if they accept you. Best to find a job for yourself first and then look when here. |

I am a canadian citizen who has recently completed her dental hygiene course. I was wondering if i needed to write the exams in dubai to practice or if just an interview would suffice in order to get a license. How does this work. If i were to come there personally how many days or weeks would the process take to get everything completed. |

Hello to who can help me out! I am seeking an opportunity to work overseas in either New Zealand and/or Australia. I have a bachelor of science in dental hygiene and have been practicing for over 3 years now. I have sought out information, but can't seem to find a direct source of information to have the chance to work in either one of these countries. Any advice would be very much appreciated! Thanks! |

Hi you need to look at the government websites as there are private/public hgienists in Aust NZ now. They operate from the school sites. In new Zealand we have a dual dental therapist/hygienist lisence now. Firrstly have to obtain registration from the Aust and NZ dental councils so email them. |

To become registered in NZ I think you have to have your ortho module and LA certificate. You don\t need to take an exam.

Hello everyone, I'm going to be sitting my Dubai oral exam soon for Dental Hygiene and I'd be so grateful if anyone could give me an idea about what to expect, I'm really struggling to find any approved texts! I qualified in the UK and so our guidelines are a little different to the US e.g regarding AB prophylaxis so I'd love to hear about everyone's experiences! Thank you! |

Congrats on the job! I haven't sat my exam yet as I've been waiting on a document that I need! But hopefully someone here will be able to help!! I haven't started looking for jobs yet- may I ask how you went about applying while still living in the uk? Apparently the exams focus on clinical based issues and med emergencies and bits like that, rather than having to remember the histology of a perio pocket etc!! :-) |

Firstly I emailed every clinic I could find in Dubai and then I flew out for some interviews week before last and landed a great job. So notice here is handed in and then I really hope to get started begining of June. If you send me your direct email, as soon as I am out there and hear of any positions I will let you know. I am hoping I will be ok with the exam as I teach Hygiene and Therapy in the UK so will be slightly embarassed if I fail !! Getting in touch with the DHA about the licence is crazy, thank goodness I have a friend in Dubai helping me out. Good Luck -:) |

I will keep my fingers crossed for you for DHA, I'm sure you will be fine, hopefully it'll be more of an interview than a viva! |
