I just finished school, and its very sad because every dentist wants an "experienced R.D.H"..how am I gonna get experience if they don't give me the opportunity???? and I have been a dental assistant for a long time, so I know how everything works. Its really sad, they don't even want a resume if you are not experienced :( |

Also, inform the Dentist of your vast experience as a Dental Assistant PRIOR to becoming an R.D.H. Sorry, but I hear the job market in FLA is as bad as the Northeast (MA,NH, CT, RI). |

Also try walking in your resume and ask if you can leave it in case anything opens up. A face to face first impression means a lot. You may have to take an asst position to hear of an office needing a hygienist. Once you get your foot in the door, it will get easier. I feel for all the new grads out here with those of us with many years of experience who cannot find jobs either. We are all in a sinking boat. Just this weekend I had lunch with 5 friends who are unemployed hygienists and 2 more who hate where they are at but can't leave because there's no where to go! |

It's very hard being a hygienist fresh out of school. We have all experienced the difficulties getting a job right out of school. The best way to get experience and your foot in the door is to work for a temping agency. Eventually someone will hire you permanently so don't worry to much. |
