You absolutely have to be licensed in New Jersey to work there. I have hygiene licenses in New York And New Jersey. It is not worth the possibly disiplinary action that may be taken against you if you practice without a license. Call the New Jersey board of Dentistry and tell them that you are looking to get your license in their state, they will send you the appropriate forms and tell you exactly what they need from you. |

Of course you have to get a NJ lisence..I am a recent grad and went on to get my NJ lisence. You have to take a short test..finger printing and deal with a whole bunch of paper work..takes some time. Good Luck! |

Is the jurisprudence test easy? Where do you get material to study for it? |
|
Greta in Staten Island, New York 53 months ago |
Do you happen to know the website where I can study for the jurisprudence test. I am assuming you are talking about this test as the short test. Thank you |
|
Lori 53 months ago |
yes the short test, its called a jurisprudence test probably on laws of new jersey. Well I'm not sure either but someone else in this forum probably knows whom had taken it already. We would appreciate any information needed from others in here. Thanx |

Please help I am doing research online but don't seem to find any information on it. I have the NY books and laws of New York and I know New Jersey laws are different, otherwise they would not make you take this exam, but how can I study for it?? Did you have a specific book or did you find info online?? PLEASE HELP!!! |

Lori said: so greta what part of staten island are you from? Did you find a job yet or been on interviews? I am in Great Kills, Staten Island. I was away for awhile, but this coming week I am applying as well. I have a few interviews coming up, and a temp agency that will be able to find me jobs. I would like to find a full time job hopefully in the city. I am willing to work any type of hours available, as long as I have at least 4 days, and I can fill the other two days somewhere else or with the temp agency. I don't think I will have a problem finding a job here but will begin the search this coming week.

yes i am also in the process of searching for a job. I just started looking i been on one interview so far but was tinking of going to an agency. I need a full time position as well or at least 4days too. I know staten island probably dont pay as much as manhattan. Have you been on interviews here? |

I have been in one in staten island, before I went away, Didn't like it. They paid 30-32 dollars an hour. It is ridiculous since an agency in the city pays you at least 37 and a regular dentist in the city can pay you up to 40 an hour, so I didn't take it. I was in another interview in Bayonne NJ, the doctor said he will wait till I get my NJ license, but I had to leave so I just put the application through last week, so I don't know if he is waiting or not. I have to take the Jurisprudence test as well on the 20th, so once I have the license I will call him. He has temps for now, so he might wait, and it is 4 days a week. He pays good, but I would rather get a job in the city, take the buss express 10 dollars a day, instead of driving, gas, tolls and so on, and the pay is good in the city so we will see. I have one interview coming up next friday full time job so I am hoping to get that one. And I also have another job in the city once a day at which I have to go thursday for them to see how I work. I am not crazy about the one day thing, but I will take whatever I can get for now, even with temp agencies, until I find a full time place.

I just moved to NYC from Nashville and have been a hygienist for 7 years. How much on average do hygienists make an hour? I have an interview tomorrow and do not know how much to ask for hourly or daily? Thanks! |

Hi.. i came across this site because i was googling info on obtaining a license in NJ. I am a newly graduated hygienist. I actually just received my license in the mail. I'm located in SI & plan on working in SI or NJ. I have no desire to work in the city, even if it means more $, due to the commute. However, I was just curious if anyone can guide me on how much I should ask for? Since I'm new to the field I don't know what will be good or bad offers. I hear not to settle for anything less than $35/hr. even as a new hygienist. |

My situation is this: I am licensed in NY, however, I am not currently registered at all because I stopped practicing and we moved several times. I now live in NJ and would like to be registered in NJ. Does anyone know how I should proceed. |

Hi TWILD, I would get all my NY licensing papers from the past together, transcripts from school, any letters of my work ethic etc. from 2-3 Dentists......then contact the NJ Board of Dental Examiners and ask them what info and paperwork is necessary, (also a copy of your last R.D.H. license). You most likely will be taking a jurisprudence test (like an ethics test for NJ), and my need to take a written board(s). Unfortunately, they don't have a universal reciprocity for the USA. Every state wants your money. GL |

I was planning on moving from Canada to NJ, I`ve written the National boards, does anyone know what addiotional exams I would have to write. Also what wages are in NJ, I have 3 yrs experience and make $38.50 here in Canada. Thanks for your help. |

Like Mary in Philadelphia, I also took the National Board eons ago (38yrs) and South Carolina licensing requires National Boards no older than 10 yrs. Can anyone suggest a review course? I've only practice a total of 10 years due to raising children and moving out of states I had licenses in - NJ and NY. Would also like to take a clinical re-immersion course but cannot find one locally. |
