I have been a hygienist for 20 years and recently moved to GA. I understand the job market is tough, but my lack of training with Eaglesoft or Dentrix is minimum and puts me at a disadvantage. It's hard to find an office willing to train me when 20 people apply for one position who have those skills and that puts me at the bottom of the list. How do I keep up with technology if I can't get my foot in the door? |

How do I keep up with technology if I can't get my foot in the door? I hear you! I have been able to get experience with some offices I went to on my own...that were willing to teach an experienced R.D.H. (in yrs)as to how to use the Digital X-rays. If you have personal computer experience...TELL THEM, and that you are also willing to shadow in scrubs WITHOUT PAY for the day, if it's not a problem with the office. Sometimes, you hit the right office, and a nice staff mem. willing to SHOW you where to put the "cursor" to...WRITE YOU OWN DIRECTIONS DOWN = CHEAT SHEET.... it worked for me....GL |

I did the same thing, asked to come in for 4 hours on my own time and shadow the x'rays. Made notes and then when they called me to sub I didn't need any help. But I know what you're talking about. Even if you learn the software you have to practice using it or you forget it. Tell prospective employers if you have any computer knowledge or have ever used any software. We are definitely at a disadvantage but we can learn. |

Is there anyone who can provide training on Dentrix in Ga? Dentrix had to cancel a class for lack of enrollment and the other classes are out of state. Highly motivated to learn but found offices not willing to train. |

It's kind of hard to practice any of the mainstream software. One suggestion is to try some dental software at www.curvedental.com/ - you can request a free demo of it. It will be different than the other programs, but it is some sort of practice. |

Me honestly I'm trying my best to get where you guys are. Dentistry is my dream. I just have no idea where to start. So while I strive to figure it out I'm a Biology student at Jacksonville State University. I really need help on my next step. Im a very very hard worker, focused, and ambitious. I just need somewhere to use these elements. Does anybody have any advice |

N.Stew....go for DA not RDH...why, because of the job availability in DA. You also, will find regular set days, hours, benefits...RDH's are not getting these. Since you are in Biology...go for DA or Dentist...you are likely to find longevity that eludes the oversaturated field of DH....VET It's a very expensive lesson: cost of DH programs, with unhealthy competition for a job...not a career in today's market, unless you are a super salesperson and don't mind not having set pay, hours, days...and this is not only me saying this with yrs. in DH, but if you read further on here, alot of recent grad's and out a yr. or so. are PISSED at the situation they are in now: no work, can't payback loans...and out thousands of dollars. Online govt/bls/online articles, schools is all bull...the first 3 DON'T know are not in our field and the schools just want your money to keep their programs going, no help to you when you're done with them...you are on your own...passion and dreams...please look into a field that has longevity , advancement and benefits...not the case for the majority in DH... |
