To all the foreign Dentists looking to work as RDH in the USA....we have oversaturation of the field...not the best place to look for employment. The cost to take tests, licensing fees...etc. not worth it to shell out for questionable, scarce employment...please look to a Dental/DENTIST forum for work, etc...TY RDH VET

aldana_guianella in New Port Richey, Florida said: You are very welcome!!! I am Dentist from Peru and leaving here about one year. I could not work before beacuse I was waiting for my papers and my green card. Anyways , I got everything done about 2 months ago , so now I am able to work. for now I am preparing to take the national board dental hygiene.I want to do that first and then when I improve my English and feel more confortable with that I want to take the dental boards. Hopefully everything goes well, Its kind of sad dont be able to work in what one really knows how to do, so I must be patient =( Take care of yourself!!

Hi
Guianella. I'm a dentist from Peru living in CA. I asked here in CA about the requirements I need to become a dental hygienist and even If I take the NBDHE I need to go to college 2 years or even more than that and study all the program because I have to be graduated from an accredited school. Is a long way..
I wanna know If in Florida If I take the NBDHE and I pass I can work there and I don't have to go to College again or what people need to do to work there as a dental hygienist. Thank you

Hi!!!
In Florida we dont need to go to the college again. To become a dental hygienist for foreign dentists, we have to pass the NBDHE, NERB, the practical examination, and the law test (many tests but is better than go to the college again =) )..I will recommend you to take the review with jane weiner, beacuse is to much information that we have to study for those tests ,overwhelming!!! and Its kind of hard studying everything again, all of those subjects that we did long time ago, you know what I mean. she advises you what you have to study and gives you a book with everything summarized....Anyways,I took her course in January (3 days course) And I am studying now for my National board. If you need more information you can check on this website and call them if you want. www.adha.org/careerinfo/foreign_trained.htm Good luck!

aldana_guianella in New Port Richey, Florida said: I got information about that. I called the board of dentistry FL and a few places more , and they said that we dont need any license to work as a dental assistant in this country, cause we are already dentists. Anyways, the problem is that some dentists when they want to hire foregin dentists , they ask for any license or certificate cause either they dont know about that (we dont need anything license )or they dont want to risk . So these places advised me to take the expanded duties course and x rays course ( courses that we already know for sure )The first one is a weekend course and the x rays is just one day course. So with those certificates is gonna be easier to get a job , but before you take those courses ( if you take it) you should be applying, who knows, maybe some dentist could hire you without those certificates... Good luck!

i work in dental assist position with the documents only is no problem i study in miami institute of medical technology inn coral gables they change phone number try to find in geogle maybe you fine the number

The computer screwed up with the 298, don't know why it's there, but in regard to the rest of my statement...it's clear...DH is overcrowded, oversaturated, unhealthy competition, not enough work to go around, so, those going into this field now are likely to be upset with the bill of goods they have been sold. If foreign Dentists want to work in this country, they are more likely to find work as DA's with some benefits, pay and knowledge /inner workings of how the Dr.'s work here in the US.

New law in FL does not allow International Dentist anymore to apply for the DH license in Fl unless you take two years of dental education in a ADA accredited school, you should get more information about this before wasting your time. The law was signed on march 2012 by the current FL Governor, also with the Local anesthesia law.

we knew this was coming, there's not enough jobs in FL and Hygienist graduated from accredited programs were pushing forward to it, just do more research to find out what is the time limit to apply and hurry up if you still have a chance.
