As a graduate of a non-accredited college in Canada I doubt if you will be elligible to write the US Board exams. I went the the NERB (North Eastern Regional Board) site and this link clearly states that you have to be a graduate of an Accredited school - elsewhere on the site they list the accredited schools. www.nerb.org/b/candidate_manuals_nerb_b.html If you pass your Canadian Boards and your CDHO clinical exam you may be in a better position to apply to the US to write one of their board exams. You would have to apply on an individual case. However, reading the various postings on this site there appears to be just as much difficulty in finding work in the US as there is finding a job here in Canada. |

The ADHA (American Dental Hygienist Association) website has the following information: adha.org/careerinfo/foreign_trained.htm The ADA website has an area for National Board Dental Hygiene Examinations and there is a pdf file (see link below) that outlines eligibility: www.ada.org/prof/ed/testing/nbdhe/nbdhe_guide_2009.pdf I still think that as a grad of a non-accredited school you are going to have to jump through additional hoops with no guarantee of success at the end. My advice to anyone thinking of becoming an RDH ONLY attend an ACCREDITED school. |

You have to contact the College of Dental Hygienists in the Province you wish to work and discuss your personal situation with them. I had a patient who was a practicing dentist in South America who moved to Canada with her husband and she ended up having to attend a two year dental hygiene program here in Canada. The fact that she was a dentist elsewhere didn't make much difference to her. Please be aware that there are very few dental hygiene jobs anywhere in Canada at the moment. You might be better advised to consider Denture Therapist or Lab Tech work. |
