Are drafter job opportunities growing or declining?

Are jobs in this industry on the rise? Are there any sub-sectors that are growing?

Where are the jobs? Which places have the most drafter opportunities?

I have been a drafter since 1976. I have hand drafting experience as well as AutoCad 14-2010, Civil 3D and Microstation with a grand total of 28 years of experience. I was laid off 2 years ago and I cannot find a job in the field. I have never in all my time as a drafter have had any difficulty at finding a job in this field in the past. This is the worst I have ever seen it. I really think that engineering companies are going to do away with drafters and hire only engineers that can do the design as well as use the Cad software.
