Visit local Septic tank companys,Landscaping, Pool companies, Equipment rental companies. These offer your services as an extention of their company. Picking up and delivery of small equipment is very popular and easy on your truck. Be proffesional and be on time. |

How much does a good used dump truck? |
|
belldogg in Columbia, South Carolina 32 months ago |
around this area i would say about $50,000-60,000.it's hard 2 find a good used dump truck, unless you know somebody or no who had the truck and how they took care of it.if you can afford it and got the work it's best to buy a new truck. |

I'm wanting to start a dump truck service and I'd like to specialize in asphalt work. Any suggestions on getting into the business? I'd really like to know how much work to expect at first, and even if this is a realistic thing to pursue. I'd really like to talk to someone, via email or phone, who has been in the business for a while. My email address is wfd825@gmail.com. Please email me your contact information if you wouldn't mind giving me some advice. Thank you in advance. |

I'm looking at a 1993 Volvo road tractor (daycab) converted to a dump truck with a ten foot box (12 yards)32000 GVW How should I charge to make money with this? The best I can tell, if I charge $50/hour I'll be LOSING on each trip....How do you charge when starting out (and keep from going broke?) |
|
belldogg in Columbia, South Carolina 30 months ago |
it depends on how far,and how long it will take to do the job.i would shot for $65-$75 an hour. |

As long as you can maintain it, engine repairs alone can run up several thousand? That's used truck salesmen do so well, they eventually get free repairs to their trucks after they have been repossesed once or twice? Sell it as soon as you can if you can't afford those kind of repairs? |

My husband wants to buy a dump truck and deliver gravel locally. We have the money saved up to buy a 1987 Peterbilt. The owner of the Pete is an aquaintence and he said he will give us all of his business contacts in the deal. I trust him when he says the rig is worth the $35K he wants for it, it is well maintained and in excellent condition. My hubby has never done this sort of work but is a diesel mechanic by trade. I own a very sucessful business so I can handle the 'business' side of it. I am worried that this might be a bad decision on his part. He has a very secure job now, but HATES it. Is this a lucrative place for him to be? He is not so young any more and the Mechanic side of it is KILLING him. Any advice? suggestions? Thanks Patty |
|
belldogg in Columbia, South Carolina 27 months ago |
it is worth it he should make 35k back in a few months.plus he can work on his own truck a big bonus, and he don't have to hunt down work cause the person is giving him all his contract work.he can't lose!!! |

I live in Florence SC and at the present time work is off real bad. I bought a 2000 Peterbilt tri-axle dump truck last year and did ok for myself. I work through a local broker that also has their own company trucks to run and right now thats where most of the work is going. Does anyone know of any steady work out there? I've heard that there's work in Charleston. Is this true? And who do I need to contact? Or possibly even Greenville, Spartanburg, Myrtle Beach, or Columbia? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I can also be contacted at rcarnell@sc.rr.com. |

Thanks Patty I have been in the business a while and have 5 trucks. The current condition of dump hauling is slow. The feds havwe withheld states funding on many road projects (election time). We too haul gravel stone and blacktop and you need to under stand dump trucking is all related. If any thing slows that is hauled by dumps the others will follow because Owner operators will under cut what you are hauling just to make their payments. My advise is to keep your costs low so you can be competitive. As for a older truck most times you end up spending more money in the long run. Repairs eat you up not only in cost of repair but down time loss revenue. Buy a truck about 7 to 10 years old in good condition that is your best deal. I know of several good trucks in my area $45k to $60k drop me an e if I can help pacelap@verizon.net |
