Learn the code and how to use it, don't try to memorize it.

Learn as much as you can from a good electrician but also study many books
because many people do things their way but not always the correct way

Ask lots of questions and question everything

GOOD LUCK

It depends on what kind of electrician you want to be. Do you want to be just an electrical worker? Do you want to run jobs? Do you want to be an estimator? Do you want to be a Supervisor? The spectrum is so broad that you can't learn it all. I would try to figure out what you want to do and work on that. I would suggest that you get into automation or something in the manufacturing field. Stay away from residential and commercial construction. Commercial service work is nice if you get with the right company. I've been doing this for 33 years and just in the last couple of years I made the transition from commercial service work to manufacturing/industrial work. I wish I would have made the move years ago. The last job I had in commercial I had 5 paid holidays, 1 week vacation after 1 year and I was paying $160.00 a week for health care insurance for my family. That common to pay that much for insurance in an open shop. I am now gettng 10 paid holidays as soon as I started, 2 weeks vacation after a year and I pay only $40.00 a week for health care insurance. Big difference.
