Average wage for twelve hour shift with seven (days) on seven of with a fly in fly out situation, all meals on site with accommodation would pull around $140K(Aust) per year. Some sites offer a lot more (Mt.Isa) around $45/$50 per hour and work as much as you wish. Lineys earn a little less around $39 to $40 per hour. Transmission lineys in big demand. Isolated locations but the money is way up there. hi fred.im 20 years old and am a qualified electrician fomr the uk. from reading throught the posts on this page and your answers and also looking up jobs like u have said to others on goolge etc i dont feel that any of them would realy suite me. i do mainly domestic work and have done some comercial aswell. but alot of the jobs advertised for electricians talk about maintenance for plant equiptment and things like that wich i wouldnt have a clue about seeing as i have never done it. how would i go about finding a job in oz that would be suitable for me. either as a domestic or a commercial electrician or that would train me up. can u other me some advise please. thanks |

frontlinefred in Brisbane, Australia 39 months ago |
G'Day Ray, As I have stated before; as you are already a tradesperson you would have little difficulty obtaining a "work visa" (working holiday). Once you are here you could shop around for the type of work you desire. There is always some one looking for people such as you with your quals. A working visa will allow you to stay here and work for up to 12 months to two years. If you find a sponsor you will have to depart the country and return. You could slip over to N.Z. for the day and re-enter Australia. That's all it takes. You could "Google" employment agencies Australia and see what they have on their books. Hope you have success. Good luck Fred |

Im a Lineman been working in the trad for over 20 years and have done all aspects of line work form street lighting to bare handing 345kva. but im ready to move to Au my nephew works for the city a newcastel. Do you know of a site that will give me names of electrical contractors. thanks Mike |
|
Frontline Fred in Brisbane, Australia 39 months ago |
Hi Mike, You would be better off contacting your nephew at Newcastle as he would be more aware of what is going on down there. (I'm in another state). You could try emailing your resume to careers@jemena.com.au They are looking for linesmen with your qualifications. You may have to reside in another State with them, but at least you would have a jobe with better dollars than you could pull in the U.S.

Thanks Fred...my bad, I only parused ur postings before and didn't see any Union Lineman looking for Union work...just electricians. Anyways, could u send that ETU list to me as well, mattvalis@hotmail.com. So, if I'm understanding u correctly, companies give the worker a choice to be Union or not? Is the Union over there pretty good or what? Does that ETU list have a contact number for them? If I google "ETU", will they have a link? From the sounds of it W. Aus and Qland are where the work is, huh? Thanks again Fred, you've opened doors to all of us. Keep up the good work. Matt. |

Hey frontline, I've read through hear and I'm wondering what kind of work an industrial electrician can find in Oz? I'm no lineman though I would give it a shot if given the opportunity. I'm more into the commercial and industrial side, 600v and under. I also have no mine training and have never worked underground. I would still like to find a company that would sport me a visa and give me work. If you wouldn't mind emailing me so maybe I could ask you a few other questions I would really appreciate it. twjamerson1979@yahoo.com |
