If you were there for a year, you should have been able to file Form 2555 with your taxes and not had to pay taxes on income earned overseas. It does not have to be in one calendar year either. Say you work there from June 2011 to June 2012, in 2012, you can either file your taxes for 2011 like normal and pay taxes on the whole year, or you can file extensions until June, then file your taxes for 2011 and include Form 2555 and only pay taxes on the income earned in the US. then in 2013, when you file for tax year 2012, you include Form 2555 again for all income earned overseas in 2012. If you paid taxes for all income in 2011 the previous year, you also file an amended return for 2011, including form 2555, and get the taxes back that you paid on income earned overseas. Depending on when you were overseas, you can still file amended returns covering the time you were overseas. (You only have so many years to file an amended return).

At least, this is how it all worked when I worked overseas for ten years from '85 to '95. Wish I could find a way back.

This was the process for federal taxes. Check with a tax professional for state returns. But I did not pay state taxes either when I was overseas.

You, sir, are the reason your taxes are screwed up. Not KBR. If you can't figure out how to apply tax law, then you should have gotten a CPA. KBR is not responsible for your inability to sort your finances. KBR pays you. That's it. What you do with your finances after that is your own business.

I am far from a KBR apologist, but it gets old reading posts from people who like to blame KBR for their own failures.
