Dear Mr. USA electrician in Dubai. Yes not Afghanistan but Dubai. You are one of the reasons I disliked the union, and I am union. I have a feeling if you look in the dictionary and looked up (good old boy or flee), your picture would be right there. Yes it isn't a picnic over here but sir are talking out of your ass when it comes to afghan companies. Also going back and looking at your posts over the last few months. I have noticed that you don't ever have anything good to say about anything.
So for myself and everyone else on the forum if you could get off your soap box for a minute and pull out that old leather wallet with four rubber bands around it and pry out fifty dollars and go get yourself laid in Dubai. I don't know about you but the rest of us will feel alot better.
I'm sure you'll have a response for this, most flees I've worked with couldn't keep their mouths shut for two minutes.

Amen, I hope this forum gets back to job connections. The bashing is counter-productive.
If you dont want to work overseas then don't. bye the way, Johnny or Bobbi I can send you a resume if you know of something available, I am not union, but have done a year in Iraq. tlc347@windstream.net, thanks .

usaelectrician in kabul, Afghanistan said: solonwoodall,
you can expect to earn about 20 bucks an hour in afghanistan if you end up with the likes of kbr or flour. if you know how to calculate a paycheck working seven twelves with american overtime rates for non-union workers. afghan companies are offerring substantially less. Afghan companies are offering the same 20 bucks based on six tens. Both feed and house you. I have a good idea that your dog lives much better than most in Afghanistan. (my dog sleeps in airconditioning on the bed) My dog eats much better than most afghans and that means you in lots of instances if you end up on a Afghan base or in a Afghan house. Those things should be cleared up prior to leaving the USA. But, as usual, the preditor American Contractors tell you as much as they tell the last mushroom you walked by. The orriginal cheeney/bush scam is still in place and going downhill. There are recruiters hiring in Africa, Texas, and Romania. All are paying much more than the contractors in Afghanistan offer. You can find 20 bucks in most old confederate states today. Afghanistan is for starving American workers. Texas coast is running about 29-34, much less across the rest of the south. (non-union) (Union work in the old south is about as scairce as hen's teeth. Always has been) washington, up to 50 and alaska about 33

Actually, work in the south is coming along quite nicely. Texas isn't part of the "SOUTH" that you keep dogging and our scale is currently $29.75 compared with $25 in Beaumont. Get off of your soapbox and let people get their information from others who are working in Afghanistan instaed of someone who isn't. Take some spelling lessons, hire a professional resume service, and get your facts right before you spew off at the mouth anymore. You are really giving Union people a bad name. Please, for the sake of the sanity of everyone who reads your epitaphs, take a job that doesn't have ionternet access. PLEASE.

Ok, so I have an offer from Fluor, and going through paperwork. Would like any info good or bad on taking this. 150k sounds good, but 84 hours a week for a year is a bit much considering a war zone. I have worked 84 and up many times, and am not adverse to that, but to be honest, have not worked a war zone before. They said that even though I worked for fluor before, this would not add to my retirement as it was too long ago. Does that sound right? Reply or email please.

if you are planning to work for fluor be prepared to wait, depending on your position and their needs you might get there faster. But from what I understand they are putting people on hold for up to 6 months at a time. They will drop you at a moments notice. Basically take it with a grain of salt. And if you get the chance,... go if you want.

Just to add to the ones wanting to come over here to work besides road side bombs, small arms fire, rpg attacks and long hours you can now add EARTHQURAKS. I know for some that could be a deal buster.
Good luck add stay positive.

I gotta admit, I've dealt with knowing there are suicide bombers, mortar attacks, rocket fire, and rpg attacks with a relative calmness, but that Earthquake laast night absolutely freaked me out. The entire house shook and I remember thinking, "This is it. A bomb that big and the house is going to cave in on top of me. I better start asking for forgiveness." Then it stopped as suddenly as it started. I ran downstairs and was told it was an earthquake. I was certain it was a bomb but they insisted that it was nothing and I should just go back to sleep. I found out this morning that it made 6.7 on the richter scale. Lucky thing it was a long way away from here.

So, yes, you are right, anyone considering coming should add earthquakes to the list of possible things you may endure here, if you come. I onlt thought of war zone, bombs, and Taliban. Earthquakes were never part of the thought process.

I am 27 and have been doin this since i was 18 i am very dedicated and determined.
can anyone help a union bro. thanx

IBEW is USA and Canada. ISI has some work in Afghanistan but that is it. You are on your own in UK. But they won't hold it against you if you go non union out of USA and Canada since there is no Union elsewhere.

You would be working for Fluor Government Group (FGG), not the Fluor you used to work for. As far as conditions, it is luck of the draw, it all depends on where you get assigned. As a general rule, the smaller the site, the better the conditions. Bagram is the biggest site with the worst conditions.

James,

You will be hard pressed to get a job offer from this post. It is here for you to exchange information with other people that may help you get a job. I would be skeptical of any job offer you got from here as it is probably fraudulent. Good luck in your search.

One thing I forgot to add, UK and US certifications are the only 2 that are recognized here by the Army. All other countries are classified as helpers/apprentices and are not allowed to terminate. So with that in mind I would say that they would still be hiring UK sparkies. I have worked with a bunch of you guys and for the most part the UK electricians know what they are doing.

Jonathan,

I just saw your posting re:electricians/technicians. Are you still seeking individuals to fill positions. I have many years experience as a master electrician in industrial and commercial areas. I have also managed crews up to 75 men on projects up to 25 million(US).

While I appreciate and support anyone looking for work, I would ask that people quit asking for a job on this forum. I too, have been off work over two years, and only recently got any offers. This, and forums like it are a wonderful tool, and provide a lot of information. I have read all the past posts, and have found lots of links to go to, company names etc. This is a horrible economy and you really have to work at it. I do google searches daily. Think electrician, logcap, overseas work, Fluor, KBR, Dyncorp, Trs STaffing,monster.com, indeed.com, craigslist etc. While there are a lot of duplicates, you have to read them all. Maybe your resume needs work. There has been info on this site to help with that. Don't forget all your friends and families, and even craigslist in other cities. I appreciate this forum for letting us know conditions with companies, or locations, or applicatin problems etc. I just think this is not the place to expect someone to "Email" you a job. Just my thoughts.

no it dosnt help for retirement unless you sink SOME of that 10 large a month into iras
but if you want too stay home and collect unemployment or welfare at 1500 a month go ahead
Some books are so full it will take a year anyway why not sign and deploy?

I think a future employer would admire your willingness too travel for a job more than sitting home and watching jerry springer gainng no knowledge waiting for that call

I figure I can live for a while on what I have. It's all what you make of it over here. Besides, you can stay home, not collect unemploymwnt, AND lose your house and everything else or you can come here. I agree with you, indirectfire, get out there and make some money while the books are full. But he won't be watching Jerry Springer without power, cuz he can't pay it when the unemployment runs out.
