I have been wondering if someone has worked as as an electrician in Afghanistan for Dynacorps or Flour. Doesn't the 7 day 12 hours drive you crazy! Can you work 8 hours once in a while or take a day off here and there. Also how is it working in 100 plus degree fairenhit for 4 straight months. I'm completely drenched in sweat when I work for 1 hour in 90 degree heat. The cold I can take. I would hate to go over there and not know what the conditions are really like. |

Yes, the 7/12 schedule is a little tough, but there isn't really anything to do with time off. With Fluor you can burn up your vacation time taking a day off or you could take unpaid time off, but either one would require your supervisor's ok. Up in the mountains and in the North (the Fluor areas)it's not too hot. The winters can be crazily cold though (a couple days ago I found the soul of a shoe frozen to the steps outside the bathroom). Down South in the Dynacorp area it gets stupidly hot. All in all it's kind of like prison but with a nice paycheck. |

If any one can help me please reply or email me at rashaadfyoung.com Sir, It is very rare that any employers or recruiters read these forums. 99% of the responses you will get or postings for jobs within this forum are scams of some sort. If you are looking for work overseas, go directly to the company's websites and apply (Fluor, DynCorp, etc). |

Yea John, you advertised for a couple of electricians 3 months ago, you are the 1% that isn't a scam. I didn't say that employers never looked here, I was simply informing a couple of new participants that it is rare to get a real job offer, and that most are scams. By the way are looking for more and willing to pay more than that measely 23euro per hour you were offering last time? |

I didn't say that employers never looked here, I was simply informing a couple of new participants that it is rare to get a real job offer, and that most are scams. Measely?? It depends on the currency. Around 23 to 24 EUR STARTING salary. It's very good compared to other european countries such as UK, Germany. There are other benefits included such such as holiday pay, bonuses, social benefits. An average electrician in the UK makes, without overtime, probably about 25.000 Pounds 32.000 EUR whereas the average pay here is 57.000 EUR a year, with no overtime, so i'm not quite sure if you're right. Maybe it's better in America (everything is better in America),I don't know, but that would be a bit odd, as the whole continent is as good as bankrupt. Or better said, fcked up. Norway, on the other hand, is one of the richest countries in the world. Do your research |

Employers only hire through their portals. There are plenty of applicants completing their applications. There is simply no need for an employer to go to this or any other web site. I spent the last 14 months in Afghanistan. I think few if any jobs are available at this time. |
|
Jesse Kimmerling in Tacoma, Washington 2 months ago |
24€ isn't bad at all. Maybe it's not for everyone, but it's silly to try to compare that with expat warzone salaries. Hell, I've been working 7/12's in Afghanistan for about twice that in annual salary for two years now, but in adds up to less than $30 per hour. I'd take a job in Norway for that pay in a heartbeat. It's not all about the money for many of us, it's also about the adventure and expanding our experience and skills. |
|
Jesse Kimmerling in Tacoma, Washington 2 months ago |
Oh, and I found my first overseas job here. Sure, the pay was a bit low and it was stupidly dangerous, but it was a foot in the door to overseas work. There are employers who hire through unconventional channels such as this. |

BESCO LTD. is looking for a General Foreman, with extensive experience in installation of switchgear, transformers, buss duct, panels. The job we have been awarded is distribution only. There is some branch circuit and lighting on the basement level only. The job is a five story new hospital on the island of Bermuda. We are a Bermudian company, and this job is for the duration of the project only. I am a 30 year member of the IBEW and am looking for a older, settled, very experienced foreman with experience running multi-million dollar projects. Our scope of supply is basically labour only, which drives our need for someone who will run the job and not have the job run him. If interested please reply to tbears@besco.bm |
