I have spent the last 10 years working in Clinical Research with the pharmaceutical companies developing new drugs. I am looking at the possibility of moving to a role as an Equity Research Analyst in Pharmaceuticals but I am not entirely sure if without an MBA I will not be successful. My highest education is a Masters in Biomedical Science. IF anyone has any advice that they could give me I am all ears??

Hi, I'm exactly i the same situation. I have been working as researcher in Biology for the last 10 years and would like to work in equity research as I think I have the good analytical skills. I have a MSc in biology, but I don't know if I would need a Master in finance or MBA. Another thing is I am 35 years old.

Out of curiosity do you think your age is a factor against you getting into the field? I'm 33 and don't really see it as a problem. I have tried some of the bigger investment banks but haven't had a lot of success. I am in the process of getting my CV rewritten and then I am going to try some of the smaller shops in the city. From people that I have spoken to that work in other areas of finance they have recommended that I at least find a financial modelling and a business writing class - it can't hurt!! The best of luck with your search - keep me posted!!!

Most Equities/Investment Analyst type jobs here 'look favourably' on the CFA qualification. Alternatively, Masters (or Grad Dip) in Applied Finance is more relevant to equities research and valuation than an MBA. Good luck.
