you must use water soluable wax, you can bring it in a little plastic souflee cup. but the purpose of the wax heater is to show that you know how to use a heater/turn it on etc. so you literally must put the little souflee cup in the wax heater to show you know where the wax goes, and turn on the heater. pretty pointless but it's just to show that you get the idea. |

...one more thing, yes you must actually do a waxing of the brows. wax one eyebrow and get at least 6 hairs (and leave it on a sanitized paper for the proctor to see), and tweeze at least 6 eyebrows from the other side and also leave on cotton for the proctor to see. |

Thanks for the help. I agree it seems a little pointless, but I see where they are coming from. I'm going to have to tell my model to let her eyebrows grow, because I don't even think I can get 2 hairs much less 6. Thanks again. |

You would probably be better off renting a kit. There are places right next to the State Board testing sites that do this and have everything needed to take the test. Plus, when you bring your own kit the inspectors tend to watch you a bit closer than if you have a Rent-A-Kit. |

Renting a kit for that California exam is the way to go. Companies like Rent A Kit provide everything you will need to make the exam easier to pass. Rent A Kit is located in Fairfield (Northern California). We have been in business since 1991. For more information you can visit our website at www.rentakit.com or call us at 707-428-4477 It sounds like you might be taking your exam in Glendale (Southern California). If you are, there are companies down there as well. Western States Kit Company has been in business the longest. There website is jzbeauty.com and their phone number is 562-698-2900 Paul |

My model is 19 and has break outs. Will this effect my practical exam? |

I made my own kit and it was extremely easy. After going through many mock board exams at school I had everything I needed. In fact, by the end of the day, all of the girls who had rented a kit had made comments about how easy it was to make it and how it would have been much easier. I liked the fact that I knew where all of my things were and that I had plenty of supplies. The kit companies will go over the kit with you, but be careful. They tend to forget items!!! Also, even if you decide to rent the kit. I would bring my own make up for the exam. The make up in the kits is sometimes old and a bit gross. Doesn't have to be expensive. Its just to show you know how and wear to apply it. Good luck!!! |

If your model has blemishes you may be forced to perform extractions, which can be time consuming, and you need all the extra time you can have. |
