Jessica,

I didn't know what to expect, I think I just stepped out on faith. No school is perfect because everyone's expectations are different. I found wonderful friends and some beautiful, caring instructors. I found myself, because I had been lost for so many years. I don't think that had anything to do with the school but with a new attitude. Go with your heart. Don't wait until everything is perfect to begin your career. Perfection comes in the trying. Don't sweat the small stuff and live each moment of life in that moment.

Thank you Carolyn, Its something i really want to do and im very passionate about the idea of jumping in to it. Everyone keeps telling me to wait until next year when the GI Bill increase takes effect..but i just cant sit around waiting. I spoke with a rep today at miller motte, and she should be calling me tomorrow to let me know an estitmate of how much my tuition should be. I know i keep talking money money money..but im about to lose my security in nov when i get out, its just kinda scary

I went to Euphoria in Henderson. I had a really good teacher, but the school was not up to par, dirty and I felt for $10,000 I should have gotten a better education, could of learned alot more. I have heard most of the schools out here are about the same..no one is happy with them.

I am trying to get into the esthetics field, I am 40 and have 2 young children, an adult child with a child-which makes me a grandmother, and a husband. I completed a cosmetology program some years ago-not licensed though. I am wondering if there are any on-line schools I can do at home because I am a busy woman-I did come across Stratford Career Instititute-are there other on-line schools?

Sorry, I know of no on-line schools which can offer cosmetology or esthetic courses which are accepted as hours in any state. This is becuse of practical portion which is required.

If you are considering any such school, make sure and check with your state cosmetology board and make sure that the school is recognized and the hours are accepted or you will just be wasting your money.

Have you talked to your state board about giving you any type of credit for your past cosmetoc education?

Hello,
All are classes close with a completion certification for each attendee.

As for the home spa, you would need to check with your State to see what their requirements are. For more info on Advanced Esthetic classes you can go to: www.conceptsinstitute.com.

I would contact the Cidesco school in Canada.

I'm looking at taking some advance classes and was wondering if anyone knew of any in taking place in New York city at the end of Feb. or beginning of March? Seminars or advanced classes? I am looking into some others but can't find a whole lot in NY except one at Christie Valmy- has anyone taken any of their advanced classes? Anyone know of any Doctor's offices that hold these sort of classes? I know in other cities they have classes I have been informed of but what about NY?

I am looking at some other options elsewhere as well but it's hard to decide because it seems a lot of Medspa's have fantasy advertising and not sure if the classes are really all that good.

Thank you!

will appreciate your opinion regarding males working as mail techs. think about it as a salon owner - would you hire a male nail tech? think about it as a client - do you mind having your mani/pedi done by a male?

Hi, I am about to start at a new salon soon! The Salon uses Dermalogica and I trained with that brand. The owner of the salon and I have a deal where the client pays me and I only pay for the products I use. So I need to know how much the products cost for one facial. Or how many facials I can do with one bottle of product. I thought deralogica would have a chart or list on this. Please Help if you can.

Apparently there are no accredited online schools for Cosmetology or Esthetics in the US. After speaking with the Board, I found that, although online schools like Stratford do give you a diploma, they do not count towards getting your license. If you the state board or even Stratford directly and ask this question, they will confirm that they do not qualify for even 1 of the 600 hours of training you're required to have in order to take the state board exams. Hope this helps.

Laws are different in states. However, it is usually accepted that as long as you do not charge for your service and do not represent yourself as a licensed cosmetologist (esthetician) you can. This is how many cosmetic sales people are able to give free facials because they are demonstrating their products.

Colorado statute says:

"(9) "Cosmetology" means any one act or practice, or any combination of acts or practices, when done for payment either directly or indirectly or when done without payment for the public generally, usually performed by and included in or known as the profession of beauty culturists, beauty operators, beauticians, estheticians, cosmetologists, or hairdressers or of any other person, partnership, corporation, or other legal entity holding itself out as practicing cosmetology by whatever designation and within the meaning of this article."

I know many students who perform facials on family and friends to get experience while they are learning.

Of course, if you want to be completely legal, I guess you could have them sign a piece of paper acknowledging that they know that you are a student and not licensed at the time. Most don't however.

During my practice, I devoted 20% of my practice to R&D. Meaning that I experimented using different techniques, protocols and products or ingredients in order to develop new treatments, products and equipment. Those which joined this program were not charged (or charged a minimal amount for products) and signed an "Informed Consent" form.
