licensed master esthetician instructor in Salt Lake City, Utah said: There is no such thing as a medical esthetician in the sate of utah. You can get your basic license or your masters license. Cameo College of Essential Beauty does offer a 'medical esthetics' program, which is just them taking your money for no reason. When you go to take you state boards there is no option to take a medical esthetician test. If you have interest in doing the more medical aspect of esthetics then you just need to start applying at med spas and dr offices. You don't even need laser training because they will train you on their lasers. I also don't recommend going to the skinscience institute, they have one really great instructor and about 10 that don't really know what they are doing, it used to be a great school, but they have not updated their Don;t waste your time or money there.facility and they hire students right out of school with no experience to run their school and be their instructors. I would think that students want someone with experience to instruct them.

Thank you, This is what I have been saying for a year. I went to Scinscience and it was the worse education I have ever received. I went to nursing school 18 years ago, and i had to teach myself what I wanted to learn. I passed the Utah State Board. And there in no Medical Esthetician License. Skinscience Laser program contested of us watching a Laser Tech for four hours on an IPL machine. NO TRAINING at all. Do not waste your time and money. I think Cameo is a better program and have talked with a few people that have gone there.

I'm beginning my Esthetics Program shortly in Buffalo, NY, but I plan on relocating to either the Syracuse, NY or Albany, NY area when I finish school. Does anyone have any insight on the job market for estheticians in these areas?

Jeff B in Dallas, Texas said: Let me make it more specific to you: There is no such thing as a "Licensed Para Medical Esthetician" in any state that I am aware of.

Jeff is correct. In Florida, other states may be different, you are a Facial Specialist. That your state licence. You can get an associates degree at some of the esthetics schools that have advanced esthetics training, but you will still be a Facial Specialist, with certifications.

Medical Esthetics Medical Esthetics and Medical Esthetician License

At this time there is no license for Medical Esthetics in Massachusetts or Maine. Most other states also do not have a license for medical esthetics. Although there are schools that will advertise that they offer medical esthetics, the actual licensing of medical estheticians is rare. Most schools have been forced to drop the terminology of Medical Esthetician.

I know this keeps coming up but just wanted to clarify a bit on the "Medical Aesthetician" If you get your Masters in Esthetics you are considered a "medical aesthetician" (medical does not show up on the license. just "Master Aesthetician") This means you can work for a medical spa or plastic surgeon etc.. They can train you to work with laser, botox etc.. If you get your basics in esthetics then you can only work in a spa doing basic things like waxing, tints, facial message, etc.. BUT! It depends on your state. In Utah you have to have your Masters Aesthetician license to work in a medical spa. Other states only recognize basic estheticians as all the training you need. You need to find out what state you want to work in and find out what their laws are on this and then you can take the appropriate action on what schooling you need. If you want to work in Europe you need to be CIDESCO citified. There are only a few schools in the US for CIDESCO but it's worth doing, in my opinion. I'm getting my basic's and continuing on to masters at the SkinSciences school. I have heard ppl say bad things about this school but so far I have had some GREAT training. A little drama for sure but I this is what happens with a school filled with girls. This school has great theory class and practical. Most schools I found in Salt Lake City have very little to no theory.

I have been an Esthetician for 17 yrs. in Chino Hills, CA. I have an excellent reputation and rapport with several Physicians. My reccommendation is to nix the medical esthetician title and go straight for the Medical Assistant certificatio. This is a NATIONAL certification in the medical field. Tuition is between 8 to 15k depending on the amount of grant money (FASFA loan). Course is about 8 mos inc. 160 hrs extership in a medical office. Then take the national certification exam and you are on your way! You will be taken much more seriously in the medical field and the Physician who hires you can utilize your skills in all areas of the practice.
