I am extremely interested in working as a skincare professional.I love the beauty and skincare industry and I am a talented and experienced makeup artist, however I feel like I am limited in my opportunities because I am not licensed in aesthetics. I am currently a senior at the University of Michigan with a major in Communications with a concentration in PR/Corporate Communications. I am seeking an opportunity to be apprenticed as an Esthetician Fridays and Saturdays (I am also available Sunday if need be) by a licensed Esthetician at a licensed establishment in Michigan and fulfill the state requirement to take the licensing exam. I would highly appreciate this opportunity. I am eager to learn and I have studied the field and I know this is something I really want to do. If anyone is willing to help make my dream come true please e-mail me at franah7@yahoo.com once you meet me and see my passion and commitment you won't regret it.

I believe you need to be licensed to do facials and waxing etc. I never heard of just apprenticing bc u gotta learn about the functions of anatomy and physiology and more. Maybe look into beauty school after you graduate. Your degree should help you in dealing with the public so thats great too for your esthetic career. Good luck.

I don't know about other states but here in Idaho we have apprenticeship programs. It's the same as going to school except that you are the only student and they require at least two licensed instructors to be on the premises. In an apprenticeship program you are required to complete double the hours as you would going to school. So instead of 600 hours you would do 1200 hours in a salon. The instructor apprenticing you has to fill out forms and submit a lesson plan for your education. You do independent study and you work for free inside the salon (except you are allowed to keep tips). All the same rules apply, you have to log your hours and keep track of all the services performed and keep the boards updated on your progress. It's kind of a shady practice because a lot of times shady licensed instructors also own the salons and they bring on apprentices for "free labor" and the apprentices are no.1 TERRIBLE at it and no.2 don't get a proper education. But, under the right circumstances and good intentions I can also see how someone could get a real quality education as an apprentice as well. But it is rare if non-existent.

Don't know about all states, but the state of Alabama does have an esthetician apprentice certification/license

No I never got an apprenticeship, I wrote some local salons and spas and the ones that got back with me said they did not have an apprenticeship opportunity available at this time. It seems that many salons, spas and even estheticians seem to be ignorant that this opportunity is available in our state, or they are not willing to take the time to do it.It is a little bit easier to find apprenticeship opportunities for cosmetology. However, since you are in another part of Michigan if I were you I would still check into it because people have done it before, somebody may be willing to give you a shot, good luck!

I got my esthetician lic in Ca 5 years ago! I want nothing more than to be working in this industry! I am a personal trainer & state & nationally certified massage therapist! I want to combine all three services but I can't seem to get facial experience! I work part time at a high end spa and they are extremely slow and have half a dozen facialists on call. They do not advertise so it is difficult.... I have done 3 facials and mostly massage.....is there any one out there that will hire me part time? I will do an apprenticeship or I will work for free!

Hi, I'm looking for an apprenticeship opportunity in Mobile. I had a cosmetologist license but let it go about 10 years ago. I've been at home raising children. Now that my youngest is in 1st grade I would like to pursue the dream that developed in beauty school, of becoming a skin care specialist. If anyone knows of an opportunity for someone who is seriously looking for an apprenticeship, please contact me. I am a very dedicated, hard working person. I enjoy helping others feel good about themselves. I also understand the hard work involved in the beauty industry and the importance of teamwork and being willing to help where ever needed. Thanks :)

Deirdre...I have been searching for the same. i believe somenone stated to me, for the salons to offer apprenticeship programs, they pay additional fees to the state. Many people aren't interested, unless they feel they will be doing ocnsistent enough to recoup those charges incuurred for offering the program. Some feel it's not worth the hassle.

Hi I'm a licensed Cosmetologist from Michigan and I'm trying to find out any places that are doing apprenticeships for Estheticians. I know a lot of salons do apprenticeship programs for hair stylists for six months or so. I would like to become a full Esthetician so please get back to me about any Salon and Spas doing Esthetician programs.

You can make so much more money as an aesthetician why don't you do that full time and take laser course from NALA institute in Arizona, Im a cosmetologist but did aesthetician work in guam for 3 years but in some states they are picky about license but im best in facial therapy and was trained by the best why are states so picky about who does what? but If I were you I would do your aetheticain work but you need to renew your license every 2 years is you license up to date? if not you need to take the test again
