Lana in San Antonio, Texas said: I don't know your opportunities, but I think the best way is to start your own business. It will be hard in the beginning but then you will make good money and be your own boss,. You need to spend quit bit money and find nice room for rent in a busy salon in a good location. I have my own business for almost 8 years and I will never go and work for any salon or spa, where they make you work 24/7 and pay nothing. If you need my advise or help just let me know. I'm in school now to become an Esthetician. I was wondering how much equipment and product do you need to start your own business? Thanks |

Although I am from Charlotte, NC, I do know of opportunities across the country. Please contact me at katie_leighmurray@yahoo.com I would like more info.. Thanks |

Hey I have read this entire thread, and am in the same boat... I live in Tampa, Fl... I have been licensed for about a year and nobody wants to hire someone with no clientel/experience... I went out and bought an entire set-up and have been practicing from home (on friends and fam) but nobody can afford to pay what I ask for so I end up dramatically dropping prices, just to have any clientel at all. I have beem considering renting and bringing all of my equipment into a more professional setting but I don't know anything about handling my own business... I am thinking it would be smart to go into business with someone else and split the fees. If anyone is interested in discussing this idea, please contact me |

This is a tuff time to find a job alot of places are not hiring and if they are it seems there is a reason for the opening. I had a call back from a place that I applied at over a month ago I figure after two weeks if you dont hear back for an interview the job must be filled. Well this spa off robertson blvd A lister clientele the manager Aida calls me over a month later I was excited to get interview I called back this girl was so rude and was like u dont know who we are every question I asked this girl had such an attitude unbeleivable I couldnt beleive it I never had anyone call me back from a job opening and sound so unprofessional this girl had no personable skills what so ever. I sent my resume out to a few places not just one not only that she left me a messsage and spoke so fast i barely caught her name let alone the name of the spa. I dont get why half these places have such unhappy miserable people working has a manager when they should be working on a farm herding cows. Needless to say I decided not to even go for the interview. |

Some people have their own issues that make their lives miserable. Don't worry about the people, you go for your opportunities until the right thing comes along. She's rude? So what stand your ground profesionally, and let things move in your favor. If you're doing this because you love it, NOONE can stop or take what is yours....UNLESS you let them, and if all it takes is some rude unprofessional chick...get my point...Next time take it and let them tell you no...She could be removed...anything can happen...ya dig? Im only saying this because it's happended to me before...I've tried both ways, and pushing through the adversity is harder but it has ALWAYS been what is best!

Thanks for the coment she didnt take anything away from me, Ive worked in situations with people that were that way before ended up unhappy in my job for three years till I just had enough and moved on..... I for one hate settling try to prove yourself to people who are unhappy with in dosent do anything,to me Id rather find something better than to have walk into someone's pathetic mess to be a boss run a spa its fine thanks to that I just knew something better was coming people like that are good why? They teach you not to settle and to listen to that inner voice, something much better did come my way....hugs Elena |

amymarie2004 in Fort Worth, Texas said: It seems to be like that here in Texas as well. There are a lot of jobs, but several spas have closed down and those estheticians took the better ones. I am a recent graduate, but worked as an esthetician for only a few months and was laid off. I want to work in the industry as well, but very difficult. You may want to look into working for yourself. Renting a room in a busy salon is rather lucrative because the salon will do a lot of free advertising for you. I have some friends that do that and it pays the rent and then some. Well good luck to you! I am in the same boat, but you have 3 more years of experience on your belt. Hi amy, I am in the same boat myself.. If you want to chat you can email me at Tiffany05bell@yahoo.com It would be nice to have an esthetician friends, my friends know nothing about it and I am thinking of becoming a laser tech! |

If you want to chat you can email me at Tiffany05bell@yahoo.com Staying in contact with others can be difficult and it's always helpful to learn from each other. Some groups in different cities have even started groups (eg. Houston and Dallas). You can also join boards (eg. Aesthetician and Esthetician to Esthetician as well as others) to stay in contact. But having local colleauges help beacuse they usually have a better understanding of the local situations. That said, If you are in the DFW area, you can also contact me. aaea@earthlink.net Jeff |

I have been a esthetician for two years now, and have not had any sucess in this industry. I have a passion for skincare. I am a hard worker and love educating women on proper skincare. I went to school for this later in my life, because I wanted to put my passion and love for skincare to work, and do something I loved. I am so discouraged. I would freelance or try to find a spot in a salon to rent. I am not in the position to open my own business, but at this stage of my life I would love to do something to work for myself. Any suggestions would be apprecciated. I am in the New Jersey area. |

Any ideas as to what I can do? I feel hopeless. While in the process of placing ads, I came across a talk forum for estheticians under INDEED, where I saw your message. I am taking the liberty to contact you regarding what we are doing, just in case you, or some one you know might be interested. In brief, we are a world renown scientific formulation lab with an extensive background in the skin care and supplement industry. We have been developing successful product lines for others for years. Like the architect that finally decides to build the ultimate house for himself, we have created the ultimate high performance line of anti-aging products for ourselves without compromise, STRONGER and MORE EFFECTIVE than anything else on the market today. Our line is designed to meet the high standards of physicians and spas, allowing them to brand their own name with no investment costs, which is an attractive marketing advantage. Our clients are Plastic Surgeons, Dermatologists, Optometrists, Chiropractors, Estheticians, Doctors, Salons and Spas. This line is in its infancy and growing rapidly domestically and internationally. This is not MLM. You would be working directly with the manufacturer. This truly is a revolutionary product line and a wonderful time to get involved. If you know of anyone who might be a good candidate, please have them contact us for further information about our company and products. They can send their resume or bio with contact information to naturallyperfectskin@gmail. Best Wishes |

In reference to going back to school for more education... I happened to meet a licensed esthetician who went to a tech school in Orlando, FL who paid some ridiculous price of under $800 for min. 300 hours. I was in an esthetics advanced skin care course 600 hours learning all the latest equipment, etc. It was great but, I paid $11K for the same license. My teacher said it doesn't matter how many hours you put in or what you paid, The state issues you the same license and no one asks out there, how many hours did you do or where did you get your training from. I am upset at myself for not checking out more than 3 schools. I should've waited until it was more affordable. I didn't qualify for any grants, so I have to get a job to pay my loans. Unfortunately, there aren't alot of jobs out there. I think the idea of renting a small space with another esthetician and splitting the expenses is great as well as the party idea. You have to create your own opportunity. Anyone in the Ocala area? Good luck everyone. |
|
Michael in Huntington Beach, California 13 months ago |
The market is difficult at the present time for experienced or inexperienced Estheticians without a job. Splitting expenses on space is a great idea and can work well with the right partner. We have several Estheticians who run their practice for two weeks sharing facilities and work as a sales representative for our skin care manufacturer during the other two weeks. If you are passionate about skin care and think you might enjoy visiting professional clinicians (plastic surgeons, dermatologists, medical spas, hotel spas, etc.) representing a high quality skin care line, this might be a consideration for you. If you are interested further, please contact me at naturallyperfectskin@gmail.com. I would be happy to send you more information. We have just started hiring in Florida. Best of Luck to you. |

I have been attending for about 9 months and finally have gotton into the skincare portion and absolutely love it! The problem is I am really not intereststed in the rest of the services that a Cosmotologist can do. I have tried to find out if I am only interested in getting a license as an Esthetician do I need to complete the full Cosmo program or should I maybe look into transfering my credits to a more "affordable" school where they focus on actually training you for the career and not just take your time and money to help you pass a test? Please if anyone knows what is actually required in the state of Florida please let me know I really dont want to waste any more time or money! |

I was also used and abused by spa owners for years. Now I lease space part time and run my own business. I answer to no one but myself. Of course I can't blame anyone else if I don't make it. Quit whining. Take control of your own life. There are plenty of small business resources out there to help you. |

I am a sahm mother of three and my husband works ALOT! I am concidering going into Esthetics! However i am not sure if this is an industry that will allow me or be worth finding help for my 3 children. As most mothers know, working can turn out to be more expensive if you are not making enough money to justify childcare. Especially for three children. I have no family and no help as of now. I am also interested in laser school to remove tattoos. I feel like i am interested in a industry that may not pay off in this economy. Do people frequently get tattoos removed? Please help- i have never cut hair or done nails and the instructors at the college told me why dont you get your cosmetology license? There is one person going through the esthetics course- and MANY in the cosmetology and message therapy courses. Is this a sign? Im almost 40 and have yet to pursue a career. I want to pursue my passions but not at the expense of my 3 children 6-12 in age. i need guidance!! |
