Hello, I just took my state board exam and passed. =) what was most beneficial for me was going to a website called stateboardquiz.com. It's free to use and gives you a 20 question test and each time you log on its a different one. ALOT of the questions on this site are asked at state board.. And as far as the practical, don't stress, just focus mainly on cleanliness, like washing yuor hands. You can't do it enough so if you forget a step or something just go wash your hands and gather your thoughts..No Worries, you'll do good if you believe in yourself!!! |

How many chances do you get to take the test? What exactly does an esty do? How is the pay? Do you get paid hourly? |

Because I havn't started school, I wonder how much they truly prepare you for the exam, since there are so many general questions. Also, the school that I plan to attend SBCC Cosmetology Academy has changed their materials from MILADY to THE PIVOT POINT Book Package. Has anyone else had experience with these educational material, if so how was your experience with passing the exam? Thanks for your help. |

lizzy in Los Angeles, California said: Can anybody give me a heads up on what I should focus on for the California Exam? Yes, you should focus on sanitation and sterilization practices. They watch this carefully. Since you don't know which of the three tests they will give you it's best to study and memorize as much as possible. My experience anyway - was to check inventory of your test bag - if they miss putting something in there you won't be allowed to do that particular service (like no wax - no wax serice) and they will ding your test score... hope this helps. |

Hello ladies...I moved to France right after school so never ended up taking my test but am re-applying for it now. I have signed up for miladys online prep for the written part but really need help with the practical. I bought a DVD but it lacks in small details... If anyone can help with all the steps and small details of the pratical. As well I am still in France at the moment but was interested in taking a refresher course or hiring a private tutor if anyone would be interested. I will be in Southern California anywhere from San Clemente to Huntington if someone would be interested in tutoring me...you can e-mail me as well at nellierenwick@yahoo.com any advice will be good. Thanks |

I took the CA written test back in May-07 and i study off of miladys.com I signed up for the practice tests to help me study and it seriously helped me out alot. i also used my books from school as well as all my notes. i studied at least 5-6 hrs a day for a little over a month. Basically study everything. Especially diseases, skin disorders, electricity, know the temp for washing towels, know the three sanitation (dis, san and ster. thats how i remembered it. disinfect, sanitize and sterilize. ) also what i did was when i knew i got an answer write i'd note the question # and if i knew it was rt, a ? if i was unsure and if i guessed i noted it as incorrect. and that also helped me tellie up on whether i was doing good or not. Hopefully this will help those that will be taking the esthetician test soon. If you have any questions you may e-mail me @ emagallanez1@hotmail.com

Mary? I dont understand, where do you live?, In U.S.A or Peru?

Did anyone else have the same problem as me? I was the top student in my class at school and passed the test in that state with flying colors. But when I came back home to CA and took the test here, I found a lot of questions where I thought, "Oh, I totally know the answer to this..." but my answer wasn't there and there wasn't anything similar. I failed by one point! AH! |
|
Evonne in San Bernardino, California 7 months ago |
YES that did happen to me Maddy. it took me all three times to pass. When i told my instructor i didn't passed he was shocked. they say the CA is the hardest test out of all states to pass. |

Are you absolutely certain that 90% of questions will be on stateboard? As well if anyone can answer a few of these questions. 1. Extra supplies needed besides rented kit are? 2. Do models have a room to Change 3. Is the derma light facial only with the red light? 4. After each assignment do we put all products back into bags and then back into kit?. 5. We will have a choice of Scrub Facial or Derma light facial...Is there also plain facial and what are those steps???? As I imagine the same as scrub facial minus the scrub??? 6. Should we pack our own make up |
