black slacks, white shirt, black shoes and a white coat w/ out your name. i was told when i had gone for my pratical to not go all glamed up because you dont want to draw any attention to yourself. And it's so true.

nellers in laguna beach, California said: Are you absolutely certain that 90% of questions will be on stateboard? As well if anyone can answer a few of these questions.

1. Extra supplies needed besides rented kit are?

2. Do models have a room to Change

3. Is the derma light facial only with the red light?

4. After each assignment do we put all products back into bags and then back into kit?.

5. We will have a choice of Scrub Facial or Derma light facial...Is there also plain facial and what are those steps???? As I imagine the same as scrub facial minus the scrub???

6. Should we pack our own make up

If your are going to the board in Glendale their is a facility around the coroner that rents the kits out. From what i remember when i took it back in 06. you get the models ready in the room you will be doing ur pratical. make sure you model is dressed very simple as well, oh and i would recommend sandels for them to wear too. no makeup and no piercings or any type of jewerly w/ hair pulled back.

when you go in to take your test they split you up 1 thru 4. their are 4 rooms in one big room. you walk in w/ ur model and wait till the instructors tell you to set up. after setting up and stuff she will explain to you how long u have and all that junk. you will have a book @ ur station, that book will tell you in order what you will be doing (note: u are not alloweed to look ahead) when it comes to the facial, they will tell you which one you get, either facial/scrub or derma light and you get to pick your own light, just pick the white light. and if you do get the derma make sure to run ur hand across the light while you r holding it no matter which light u get, do it because they will dock u points. also, make sure your eye lash strip is even and not lumpy on the eye it needs to be flat on the eye w/ no bumpy ness. nothing goes back into ur kit till u r done and time to clean up. ur book will tell u.

ok really helpful what are the steps with the white light dermal facial and plain facial???? just need to freshen up and also do we use a steamer at all during the
exam. I am sorry I have been out of the loop for quite some time...

also does anyone know anywhere in the los angeles or orange county region where to learn professional makeup skills???...

Hi, I am a licensed esthetician in Missouri and I'm moving to CA and I have to retake the exam and practical. This might sound like a stupid question, but I was wondering about what the rooms are like for the practical. Because in Missouri my client bed was literally a lawnchair. We had a lawn chair and a table and then we had to make our kits and bring everything with us. And for the waxing part, do they literally make you wax your model? Because in Missouri we basically simulated the soft wax with vaseline and the hard wax with play-do.

I would really appreciate any help! I just ordered a Kit for the CA practical so hopefully that will be helpful.

I just transfered my license to CA, which is why I had to take the test...I think it might be easier right out of school. I'm going to see how makeup goes and depending on that I may end up working in a spa.

Hi I was wondering how freelancing in make up is going for you/ I live in Kentucky and was thinkging of doing the same thing. Thanks :O)

mhod in roanoke, Virginia said: Hello. I just graduated from the Aveda Institute in D.C.
Roanoke is my hometown and I just moved back. As of right now, VA is in the process of making laws for the esthetics occupation so I'm curious to know if I've been misinformed on this topic. We were told we can't get a license for the state of VA yet. What state board did you take? We were told we can get our license in either Maryland or D.C. and take the written in Virginia but that's it.
Thanks for the help!

How did you find the course there? What was in your kit?

I dont't know if you were responding to me or not-but I was wondering about the course in DC at Aveda'm not. How was it and what was in your kit besides books? Were there any facial products? Also I was told that you could take the test in Maryland or DC but I'm not sure about the laws in Virginia. If I were you I'd call the Department of Licensing for the state of Virginia.

What I would recommend is buying the video for only 20$ at jzbeauty.com I think it will help watch alot and write down the procedures as well....Best of luck to you..Thats what I did as well as hopeishope mailed me the steps to the practical...as well as for the written they have a booklet at the same website or go to stateboardquiz.com and buy the 100 questions and take the test they give for free as well...It is issued by stateboard so it should be pretty helpful...Good luck to everyone...
